Here we are in November and many of our snowbirds have already left or will be leaving us soon. Dont forget to think of us in whatever hot and sunny climate you are in. We will be missing you. October was a fun filled month highlighted with the State President Dwayne and First Lady Barbara Guys visit. For the past five years we have planned the State Presidents visit on the same night as the Variety Show because this is a guaranteed great time. And this year was no exception. First Lady Barbara, State President Dwayne, Roberta, and Claris Ranger To a sold out house the cast and crew of the Legends Variety show out- Mike, Maureen, did themselves again. The talent we have in our Lodge never ceases to amaze meI am in awe. Lina and Steve Hussey, Lysanne Doucette and the rest of the Legends put on a fantastic show that will be talked about for months. You are the best and Thank You for making our Lodge look goodI was very proud to be Exalted Ruler that night. October was the Local, District, and State Soccer Shoot events. And I am very happy to announce that Lewiston Lodge has a young man who has made it through all these, and will be representing the Lodge in the Boys U-10 division in the Regional Soccer Shoot against six other States in Auburn MA on November 9th. Congratulations and good luck to Jay Hawkes, grandson of Elk Bonita Childs, we are all rooting for you. November is Veterans Month and as Elks we celebrate our Veterans throughout the month. Please remember our Vets on their special day November 11th and all month long, because we as Americans have a lot to be thankful for because of sacrifices the brave men and women who have and are still fighting for our freedom have made. Also please come to the Lodge on November 24th for the Flag Burning Ceremony (see From the First Lady on page 2 for more information) it is a very symbolic service that is real cool to see. Friday November 15th is new member initiation night. Please come by and say hi to your new brother and sister Elks as well as have some food and listen to great music. Friday November 22nd will be Turkey bowlinghit some bowling pins with a Cornish Game Henyou could win a turkey and have a blastit is really quite funny. November is hunting season and I am very happy about that, whereas Maureen is not. So if you are a hunter be safe and good luck, if you are the significant other of a hunter, pray they get their deer the first day so you can stop worrying. Happy Thanksgiving Yours in Elkdom Michael R. Aube Exalted Ruler

From the Secretary

We have a couple of bylaw changes that need to be Lodge of Sorrows acted upon. It appears that they had been read at meetings last year as well as published in the newsRobert Gladeau letter. However, as sometimes happens, due to events within the lodge, the changes were never Awaiting Initiation voted upon by the membership. The changes will be Geoffrey Caron--Mike Aube read on the floor at the last meeting of October and voted on at the first meeting of November. The first Robert Cote--Steve Hussey change concerns the reinstatement fee; it was recommended in July 2012 that we waive the reinstatement Deloris Fellner--Karen Staples Mark Ferguson--Mike Aube fee for any member who had been dropped in the previous 5 years. The change was read on the floor Paul Fournier--Steve Hussey and published but never voted upon. The second Rose Lamontagne--Steve Hussey change concerns the adoption of the short form ritual for meetings and initiation. While this has been Rita Rochele Ouellette--Adriane voted on at a membership meeting, no evidence of Kramer the change being published can be located. See the Ruchard Parent--Steve Hussey insert for the bylaw changes . John Reid--Mike Aube As we enter into the holiday season and begin to Joseph Zarrilli--Richard Wright think about resolutions for 2014, I would ask you to take a moment to consider becoming more active in Proposition for Reinstatement our Lodge. I am including a list of committees and the current chairperson. If you would like more innone formation, please contact myself, ER Mike, or the committee chair. There are many ways to help out writing a letter, making a phone call, suggesting an Up for Life Members activity and some of these only take a few minutes. The list is printed below; you may wish to cut it out none and post it on your refrigerator door. The first Sunday of December is Elk Memorial Service. This is a day where we gather to remember our deceased Brother and Sister Elks. I am the chairperson for the event and could certainly use some assistance in planning. Please let me know if you can help. Yours in Elkdom, John Wyman

From the Treasurer

Hello Lewiston Elks #371 members! Some of you have seen me around the Lodge for the last year. I have been the Treasurer since late September of the Kathleen Cotterly fiscal year and remained to work with the Mike Aube suite. I have enjoyed this work and the best part is having money to pay our bills! Through the efforts of all the dedicated volunteers, we have been able to tackle some pretty hefty payables like insurances, city taxes, accountant fees and many more. It feels good to see our accounts payable reduced to a manageable number. We are half-way through this year and we're doing GREAT! On another note, there will be something special occurring this month: MARK YOUR CALENDARS! LET "THE MEDICARE MAN" HELP YOU REVIEW YOUR MEDICARE OPTIONS. Rick George, "The Medicare Man," will present a seminar on Medicare, Tuesday, November 12 at 6:30 p.m. Rick is an Independent Agent, representing Aetna, Martin's Point and United Healthcare's Medicare plans. Come and let him tell you what 2014 changes will mean for you and let him help you find a plan that works best for you and your health. There is no charge for this event, folks, and it's not costing the Lodge anything. Please come. This is important for those of us who are retired and those of you who may be retiring soon. Munchies will be available and the bar will open after the meeting. Sincerely, Marge Carter, Treasurer
