INTRODUCTION

Our topic EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT PRACTICES FROM RANG DE BASANTI deals with the instances of employee engagement and motivation as depicted in the movie Rang De Basanti .It deals with the process of employee motivation such that the employee is motivated towards effective output by engaging them in tasks well suited for their skills. It also deals with the concept of how to retain the employee. It shows that if the employee has understood the principles and values of the firm, he/she works more efficiently in the firm. There are various ways in which an employee engagement can be implemented. For example some of them are: giving him/her the work of his/her expertise make him/her feel respected, reward him/her for his/her valuable inputs appreciate him/her regularly Provide him/her with an open work environment etc.

ABOUT THE MOVIE


The movie Rang De Basanti has a lot of significance pertaining to the employee engagement practices and our task was to bring to fore those particular instances of employee engagement. The cast of the film consisted of: Aamir Khan as Daljeet DJ /ChandraShekhar Azad Siddharth as Karan R. Singhania/Bhagat Singh Sharman Joshi as Sukhi/Rajguru Kunal Kapoor as Aslam /Ashfaqullah Khan Atul Kulkarni as Laxman Pandey/Ramprasad Bismil Alice Pattern as Sue

Soha Ali Khan as Sonia/Durga bhabhi R.Madhavan as Flight Lt. Ajay Rathod This would help in better understanding of the instances expressed henceforth and would provide a better picture.

BASIC PLOT
RDB is a perfect amalgamation of dedication and fun. The group of college friends was careless and frivolous till the time they realized the reason to fight for a mission. Dedicated to lives of Indian Airmen who have died due to frequent MiG aircraft crashes, this is a story of five friends, Sukhi, Daljeet, Aslam Khan, Karan Singhania, & Laxman Pandey who are approached by a U.K.-based Filmmaker, Sue, to participate in a documentary about India's freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Rajguru, Ashfaqulla Khan, and Ramprasad Bismil. She is quite disappointed as five do not appear interested and one is ready to re-locate to the United States. She does convince them to participate and makes them view their circumstances with a different light, leading Karan to confront his dad, Rajnath, and then things began to change for them, especially with the sudden death of Flight Lieutenant Ajay Rathod, and become even more complicated when the five are accused of assassinating Shastri, India's Defence Minister and hole up in a Doordarshan TV Station - with the Police hot on their tails.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT INSTANCES AND PRACTICES


Now after introducing the cast of the film and the story backdrop of the film, we would now be discussing about various employee engagement practices that were depicted in the movie RDB. We would go character wise and bring to the fore various employee engagement practices. Laxman Pandey/Ramprasad Bismil(Atul Kulkarni) The employee engagement practices depicted by Laxman in the movie RDB are : 1. Laxman was highly devoted to serving his countrymen. The party. He initially belonged to used his this nature against his country. In fact he didnt even move from his objective when he was bribed. 2. But after he realised that the party he joined had wrong intentions, he immediately left it just for pursuing his objective. This showed his dedicated nature along with high self esteem.

Flight Lt. Ajay Rathod(R.Madhavan) The employee engagement practices depicted by Ajay Rathor in the movie RDB are : Flight lt. ajay rathore was highly dedicated to his work. For him, his work was above all. His patriotism was shown when his work was mocked by his friends but then also he wasnt moved by their talks rather he tried correct them their wrong thinking. Aslam /Ashfaqullah Khan (Kunal Kapoor) The employee engagement practices depicted by Aslam in the movie RDB are: Aslam was a clear headed and motivated person. He showed the true spirit of friendship that extends beyond the boundaries of religion. Coming from a Muslim background, his family never appreciated his friends who were hindus.also, he was insulted by Laxman on many occasions. However this never deterred him from meeting them or later being a part of the cause that they take up to fight for justice.

The group of friends The employee engagement practices depicted by Ajay Rathor in the movie RDB are : 1. During the initial college days shown, the entire group did not have proper objective in their lives. They all were carefree and frivolous. But after the death of their friend, flight lt. ajay rathor they all changed and came to fight for a common goal. 2. For them achieving the objective became their life. This was shown at the end when the four friends laid their life while trying to complete their mission.

These were the various employee engagement practices that were depicted in the movie Rang De Basanti that had an amazing counter impact on their respective missions. This shows the importance and value of employee engagement practices in any sphere of life.

CONCLUSION
The distinctive feature of employee engagement as an idea is that it pulls all of these positive job and work attitudes together under one umbrella. Advocates argue that the research clearly shows that when employee engagement is high, organisations do better. What this means is that one would need to influence a particular aspect of engagement if striving for a specific result. For example, if the goal is to get people to support and help each other more enthusiastically, the focus should be on the organisational citizenship aspect of engagement, rather than, say, trying to improve job satisfaction. And as depicted in the movie Rang De Basanti, we can conclude that employee engagement practices help a person to be motivated enough to even give his life for his organisations cause. Its a sense of taking pride in what you do and respect for your work which is what the friends got as shown in the movie.
