 UGADI The first day of the year ‘Virodhi’
was welcomed by all of us at
Nachiketa Tapovan with a joyous
celebration at 10AM on the 27th of
March. To our great pleasure the
lighting of lamp was performed by
the Chief Guest Sri Ananda Rau
garu, Retd. IAS officer. This was
followed by Vedic Chanting of
Tapovan children. Nagamani, one
of our brightest kids rendered a
devotional song. The children of
Vidya mandir entertained and
enthralled the audience with a crisp
fashion show, a dazzling dance with
diyas, mimicry by Srikanth and
Nagamani’s sharing her career
plans of becoming a teacher. The air
of joyousness was enriched by the
fragrance of spirituality that
exuded from the talks of Anand Rau
garu, Swamiji and Mataji and the
bhajans.
Anand Rau garu’s talk was
illustrated by many stories and
anecdotes and captured the
audience’s interest. He enlightened
the listeners about what true
happiness is. Perception, Source
and Threshold of happiness may
vary from person to person but the
eternal truth to be learnt is that
Happiness has to come from within
us.
Prizes were distributed to the
winners of Fancy dress competition.

Sri Ramanavami
The celebration was quite an informal
yet a soulful one. We gathered in Dhyana
Mandir at 10:00 AM on the 3rd April,
2009 to celebrate Sri Ramanavami.
Fourth grader Anuradha welcomed and
helped everyone settle down with Three
Omkaras. Swamiji greeted the gathering
with the auspicious ‘Om Namah
Shivaya’ and promised a unique
celebration. Honorable Sri Vasanta Rao
Tathe lighted the lamp and enlightened
the audience with a brief account of
Sri Rama’s life starting with how Rama
took birth on this Earth to fulfill a
Divine purpose and lead an exemplary
life of righteousness. He placed His
parents and motherland on such high
pedestal that he effortlessly turned down
the offer to rule the magnificent golden

Mataji talked to children about the
importance of incorporating the values
of Rama in our lives. Smt. Vasundhara

children which ranged from mythology
and philosophy to politics. The children
participated actively and enjoyed this
interactive session which was followed
by bhajansWorkshop in progress

 Nachiketa Tapovan is dedicated to protect the cause of the
underprivileged children and has taken up several philanthropic
projects like providing free quality education and skill-oriented
technical and vocational training to enhance their living
condition.
Our goal is to train the students in professional skills to equip
them for future employment opportunities. Diya painting,
Computer training, Karate classes, Detergent making, Arts and
Crafts are some of the skills imparted to the students as well as
the teachers.
Smt. Ranganayakamma and Smt. Ratnamala have been rendering
great services in training them in craft making like bags,
doormats, embroidery, wall hangings, envelopes, greeting cards,
purses etc. They are highly talented in these skills and we thank

from within!
them for supporting our cause. Diyas made by our little ones are
selling like hotcakes and the profits from these sale proceedings
are being credited in their personal accounts so that it will be
awarded to them as stipend. This will not only create self reliance
and pride in them but also help convince some of the parents
who want to pull the children out of school and send them to
VOCATIONAL work in an effort to increase their income. Children trained in
Karate have won many accolades.
TRAINING We believe that these initiatives will go a long way in providing
opportunities to hundreds of underprivileged children to be a
part of mainstream education and enable them to lead an
independent and dignified life. We aim to continually improve
our existing programmes and to identify new areas of involvement
where help is needed.

 Vidya Mandir - Volunteers' Views
As a continuation of last issue’s Vidya Mandir’s daily activities, we are
presenting some of the volunteer’s feed back on working in Tapovan.
I have been coming to Tapovan for almost 3 years and I enjoy
every moment spent here. I teach English to 5 graders. It is like
a whole new world…away from the politics and conditions and
pressure. Gives lot of satisfaction and contentment. Infact, by
working here I gain a lot more than me doing something for the
organization. I see extended family in the loving children. The
entire set of volunteers are very nice and easy to work with.
There is not even a fragment of politics or back talk. Very clean
and love filled atmosphere. Doesn’t feel like “ work”. I wish I
could stay longer but for personal commitments. Hope to spend
longer time in future!

I teach Hindi to 4th and 5th classes. I feel at home here in Tapovan.
This is like my family. I get so engrossed in my teaching that I don’t
even miss home. I work effortlessly and derive lot of satisfaction
from it. Children are very loving, loveable and enthusiastic.
Environment is very friendly.
Inspite of the workload they share with their parents at home they
save so much energy and interest for learning in school. The
presentation skills of students amaze me. They have no stage fear
and are always eager to participate in activities. They prove that
economic status has no effect on one’s inner courage. The school
gets all the credit for nurturing them to unfold their wings and fly
high skies.
I am impressed that the organization also provides medical facilities
to the growing children, helping them stay fit and healthy. Very well
rounded care and attention is given to children of Tapovan.

Construction Committee Meeting Report
On Sunday the 29th March, 2009 the construction Committee of
Nachiketa Tapovan Ashram gathered at the Dhyana Mandir,
Nachiketa Tapovan for a committee meeting. The attendance was
about 50% since some of the members happened to be out of town
on that day. Swamiji and Mataji gave a detailed report on the
progress of the ongoing developmental activities in Tapovan and
Ashram. The salient aspects discussed were:
1) Release and development of fortnightly Newsletter-
Nachiketanjali
2) Announcement of various Construction Committees
3) Proposal for appointment of coordinators for the
committees
4) Stages of development of the Ashram buildings.
5) Estimation, Extent of completion and required costs for
construction projects.
6) Plans and proposals for fund-raising
7) Planning of inauguration of few buildings at the Ashram
8) Proposal for monthly meetings of Construction Committees
We thank the members for their active participation and valuable
feedback and also for taking time to attend the meeting and making
it a truthful one. We are working on making the suggestions feasible.
Minutes of the Construction Committee Meeting will be mailed shortly
to the members.
