Ruotao Qiu Kristin Foster CO150-400 10/19/2013 The advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad Is this a good choice for international students? Today, there are more and more students that decide to study abroad, especially in America. Now, I want to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad to give some helpful advice to those Chinese students who are planning to study abroad. For this controversial research project, I set out to discover that is studying abroad a good choice for international students. I posed several questions that I hoped my research could help me answer: (1) Why so many students want to study abroad? (2) Which countries are majority of students decide to study abroad? (3) How does studying abroad affect international students? I conducted this research during a two-week period in mid-October 2013. The annotated bibliography contains four sources: one of them is an academic article published in a peerreviewed journal, the other is an article published in a personal blog. The two remaining sources are both articles from popular online newspapers. These sources help me to complete my research by providing abundant information about studying abroad. Juett, Jarred. learning away from home. He uses secondary resources about 5 most important advantages of studying abroad to support his purpose, including benefits that job opportunities, new worldviews, unique interests, wide circle of people and global foresight. In practical terms, Juett asserts that employers prefer to hire people who with oversea education background, because oversea experience a positive and enriching attribute for any employee. Moreover, studying abroad can help students learn some new cultures which can expend our horizon.

There are 2 factors contribute to the credibility of this source. First of all, I found that Juett was the director of international communication in University of Indianapolis, which confirms the author is reliable. Secondly, this article published in HCC Medical Insurance Services, which focus on study abroad insurance. One limitation of this article is that we do not know publication date and maybe it was published a long time ago.

This article helps me answering my questions by providing information about benefits of studying abroad, which will help students get high job market view and international relationship. The audiences of this opinion article are other students who have interested in studying abroad. The author comes up with a opinion that studying abroad is not always nice. She lists several disadvantages to prove her purpose. At the beginning of the article, she thinks that living abroad will help you to understand the language better, but if you do not talk, you will not improve. In addition, she mentions another disadvantages is that people may feel alone. Loneliness and sadness will surround students heart when they feel stressed because their friends and families cannot study with them.

This research study is credible because it published in April of 2010, which makes it recent. Whats more, the author has a lot studying abroad experience because she is a French student who studies in America. One limitation of this article is that it published in a personal blog, which is lacking in credibility.

This source clearly answers one of my questions that how do studying abroad affect international students and the author gives a negative attitude. Besides, this article gives two relevant information about two stakeholders, families who will provide financial support, and the government because they will send their students to study overseas. This academic research was written for international students. It discusses four aspects of data about studying abroad. For my project, the data of section 1(The number of Leading Countries of Origin for International Students in the U.S. in 2011-12) provides most useful information. According to the form on the website, I find that China, India and South Korea take an important part in sending international students as origin in the U.S. Saudi Arabia students is the fourth-largest group. It has a high rate of growth and the growth attributable to a large-scale government scholarship program. Whats more, the number of students from the Middle East grew by quickly. Besides Saudi Arabia, a large number of students from Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar take an important in sending students to America.

This source is credibility because it was published 11 months ago, which makes it quite recent. It is also published in a well-known news website (Inside Higher ED), which confirms the information is reliable. However, it does not provide the information about the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad which i am looking for.

This source helps me answer my research question because it provides abundant data about which countries send most students to studying in America. This scholarly journal was written for people who are planning to study abroad. The authors use their personal experience to discuss the benefits of studying abroad and they use a lot points to support his purpose. First, they talks about the factors influencing studies abroad, including that The opportunities for students to study abroad are growing across the world. and English is increasingly being used in many countries. Then he discuss the benefits of studying abroad, such as social work practicing,

There are 2 reasons that this source is credible. First, it was published in a peer-review journal, which affirms the reliability of the information included. Second, it was published in September of 2013, which makes it within 2 months. However, the only one limitation of this article is that as a student who studies in Ghana, author can not provide the information about experience of studying in America.

This article provides a lot personal experience about studying in Ghana to answer my question how do studying abroad affect international students. And it gives me a clear topic about how does international student study in Ghana. It also provides a reference for stakeholder in this topic: the students who want to have an international experiential learning.
