Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: December 3, 2013 Departmental Overview The Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society at the University of California, Berkeley seeks to bring together researchers, stakeholders, policymakers, and communicators to identify and challenge the barriers to an inclusive, just, and sustainable society and to create trans-formative change. One of the primary strategies for accomplishing this goal is the creation and support of the Haas Network for Trans-formative Change. The vision for this Network is available here: http://diversity.berkeley.edu/haas-institute-network-vision As such, the Haas Institute serves as a national hub of a vibrant network of researchers and community partners, taking a leadership role in translating, communicating, and facilitating research, policy, and strategic engagement. This Network includes the executive director and staff of the Institute as well as multiple campus inter-disciplinary research clusters, other academic audiences, community leaders and organizations nationally and internationally, students at all levels, and local, national and international policy-makers. The Haas Network is a flexible, responsive, and far-reaching network that brings groups, institutions, and individuals together to work on issues that are expansive in their potential impact for meaningful change for marginalized communities. The Haas Network will have an open structure with the capacity to mobilize a broad population and scale up to address intractable and enduring problems at every level. The emphasis of the network will be on creating relationships rather than addressing issues, with an understanding of shared agenda development, goals, values and alignment to facilitate trans-formative change.

Careers The Network Coordinator (the Coordinator) is a key senior level position responsible for helping build, foster, support, sustain and nurture network relationships, and carry out network efforts. The Coordinator is also responsible for planning, strategic communication, and organization and to provide logistical and organizational planning support for the Institutes network infrastructure. The Coordinator will support the network steering or executive committee, and will report to it, as well as to Haas Institute leadership. Responsibilities Using institutional knowledge and awareness of constituency perception, builds, and maintains relationships critical to the Network, including identifying and reaching out to new Network members. Will oversee all aspects of complex Network communications, ensures periodic, consistent and timely communications and planning for members and Steering committee. Designs, develops and implements short and long term strategic plans, programs, events and activities. Maintains close communication and liaise with Network Steering Committee; attend regular steering committee meetings and report back on HIFIS Network progress. Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data, reporting findings, interpreting results and/or making recommendations. Required Qualifications Knowledge of practices and procedures associated with community organizing and world/social justice models. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including skill to produce information that is appropriately presented and effectively received by academic and non-academic audiences. Knowledge of network and relationship building and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of internal and external constituencies. Demonstrated project management skills, including skills to plan, organize and implement successful events of varying size. Facilitate both the cultivation and strengthening of new and established partners for the Network, through targeted outreach and strategic communication. High level of responsivity in handling constituent concerns, resolving problems or issues. Knowledge of the Haas Institute, as well as the University of California, Berkeley, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements, issues of concern and infrastructure. Proven skills in synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals and reports. Demonstrated ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes and to respond appropriately to rapidly changing deadlines. Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Ability to travel domestically or internationally, as well as staff events outside normal working hours. Flexible, self-motivated; ability to work independently and collaboratively. Capable of supervising junior team members as needed. Education/Training: Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training in the fields of community organizing, social justice, advocacy or public interest or other comparable qualifying experience.
