Effect of Salt-Anfo Mixture in Back Break Reduction due to Blasting in

Esfordi Phosphate Mine of Bafgh
Iman Enayatollahi,Abbas Aghajani Bazzazi
Abstract
Back break is one of the blasting side effects which causes poor fragmentation, reduces safety of benches
as well as an increase in activity expenses in subsequent blasting due to uneven burden. Therefore to
reduce back break, we can change the explosion pattern parameters, such as powder factor, stemming
and delay. Also by reducing the strength of blasting in the last row, a considerable decrease in back break
phenomenon can be achieved. Salt and sawdust are type of materials which can reduce the strength of
anfo. in this experiment the implementation of salt-anfo in reducing back break was studied and after six
individual explosions the optimal ratio of salt-anfo was spicified. Mixture of salt-anfo was used only in the
last row of blast holes and after loading crushed rock the final wall was analized. to evaluate the
experiments and bring out the optimal ratio of salt-anfo mixture, back break index was defined. Some of
the main advantages of using salt are, remarkable reduction in back break, improvement in
fragmentation and the lesser explosives used.
