Faceted VRML Display LectureNotes Creating VRML, AVIs and MPEG Files for Output The Mechanica results window, over the past few releases, has enabled an increasing number of options to users seeking to get more output formats from the results window. Users can export results data with the following formats:

Direct VRML: The deformed shape of the model can be exported in VRML format. This will create a *.wrl file that can be opened in Pro/ENGINEER. The VRML file contains faceted data, so the user cannot use it in the same way a solid model is used.

Movie: Animations created in the result window can be exported. The two formats available are AVI and MPEG.

Best Practices The VRML file of the deformed model will contain the geometry of the exaggerated deformed shape, not the true deformed dimensions of the model. The data can be used to generate a shrink wrap and a faceted solid model, but this will not always be successful and is not supported. The default settings for movie exports will generate smaller animations more suitable for using thumbnails. While the user can set any resolution for the animation, it is a good idea to keep the aspect ratios sensible so the animation does not look awkward. Finally, the default FPS (25-30) is a good value to use, since it is more or less in line with the number of frames most movie players will use per second.
