Learn about the Affordable Care ACT on 12/8

On December 8th, Kelly McDonald, with Get Covered America, will give members and friends of UUFW an opportunity to learn about the Affordable Care Act. Ms. McDonald is with Get Covered America which is a non-partisan, non-profit campaign to educate communities about the new health insurance options made available by the Affordable Care Act. The session will cover who is eligible, what services are covered, financial assistance and how to apply. The presentation will be shortly after service and will be about 20 minutes followed by an opportunity for questions from the participants. While we many of us may have great health insurance plans, we may have family, friends or co-workers who are among the many millions of Americans currently without health insurance or who currently have inadequate insurance should they encounter any serious or prolonged health problem. So invite a friend to this brief presentation and while you are at it, invite them to worship service as well!

Unwrapping the Inner Gifts of Christmas, a book by Rev. Dr. Tom OwenTowle
Longtime UU minister the Rev. Dr. Tom Owen-Towle, has written a book, Unwrapping the Inner Gifts of Christmas, to help Unitarian Universalists navigate the celebration of the holiday period between Thanksgiving and New Years. Owen-Towle writes, Peddling Christmas as merely a holly, jolly affair diminishes the fullness of our humanity as well as the scope of the original gospel narratives. Heres the key: When we bravely face, then embrace, the entire gamut of human emotions and experiences during December, were spiritually prepared to do so the rest of the year. We become whole persons whenever we willingly confront the whole of life. He acknowledges that emotions during the holiday period run the gamut from sadness to joy. The book has twenty chapters devoted to different perspectives about the holidays. It is $15 from the UUA Bookstore.
