Directive Principles of State Policy

 Article 37 – Not Enforceable by Court

 Principles contained therein shall be fundamental


to governance of State and for Making Laws

 Article 38 – State to secure a social order for promotion of


welfare of the people

 Strive to reduce inequalities of income, status,


facilities and opportunities

 Article 39 – Certain principles of policy to be followed by state


i. People of India to have the right to adequate
means of livelihood
ii. Ownership of material resources of State to be
conducive for all
iii. Operation of economic system does not result in
concentration of wealth in the hands of few
iv. Equal pay for equal work for men and women
v. Work suitable to age
vi. Children to be given opportunity to develop

 Article 44 – Uniform Civil Code for the Citizens

 Article 45 – Provision for Free and Compulsory Education for


Children upto 14 years.

 Article 46 – Promotion of Educational and Economic Interests


of Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribes and other Weaker Sections

 Article 47 – Duty of the State to Raise Level of Nutrition and


the Standard of Living and to improve public health

 Article 48 – Organization of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry


on Scientific Lines and Prohibition of Cow Slaughter

 Article 48A –Protection and Improvement of Environment and


safeguarding of forests and wildlife

i) Ideals
ii) Directives
iii) Unenforceable Rights

 Aims at social and economic democracy

 And establishment of ‘Socialistic Pattern of Society’


and not Socialism
 ‘Directive Principles’ do not have Judicial Sanction
but Political Sanction
 Provides basis for Government Policies

 Directive Principles implemented by enactment of


various legislations
