Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse. -Henry Van Duke
The Origins Of Thanksgiving By: Estefania Huerta 2015 Do you know the significance of why Thanksgiving is celebrated? It goes back to 1621 when the Pilgrims shared a meal with Native Americans. The Plymouth colonists, whom arrived from Britain in the Mayflower, shared an autumn harvest feast with the Wampanoag Indians. As we recall, the Puritans struggled a lot in their arrival to Plymouth in the 1620. The Puritans witnessed horrible windstorms during their voyage and experienced a leakage. The Puritans gave thanks to God for their safe arrival. Yes, their meal did consisted of: a turkey, corn, shellfish, deer and roasted meat. The feast is still celebrated on every forth Thursday in November. However, it wasnt until 1863, that President Abraham Lincoln declared it a National Holiday; one in August to commemorate the Battle of Gettysburg and the other in November for people to give thanks for general blessings.

November Issue 2013 Really? Slang! By:Maryeh Goins 2014 Dis, mo, crew, and fresh do these words sound familiar to you? It seems like our proper language is merely turning into slang. How many times have you walked down the street and passed by a group of people using improper language? I know I have; many times! Using slang does not make you seem cool. It shows that your lazy or just dont care about proper language. Also, I have heard people say, people who talk like that sound illiterate. Do you want people to think of you that way? Talking in a slang dialect can turn into a terrible permanent habit; it can come out at the wrong time. What if you are at a job interview and your slang happens to slip out unintentionally? Do you think they will hire you, after your use of slang? In the employers eyes it will be an insult to hire you as a part of their company. Theres no positive outcome or benefit when you use slang. Just something to think about, the next time you use slang, you should consider how it may affect you in the long run. Page 1

Whats Wrong With The Government?

By: Allan Romero 2015

Did you hear about the government shut down? I mean what was that all about? The government was shut down from October 1st to October 17th over the debt ceiling. The world was frightened of having a continuous recession. Though a resolution was found, it is only temporary. Congress has only raised the debt ceiling enough for America to function until February 7th. After this date a resolution must be found. If no permanent resolution is to be found, America will have to go through the same scenario again. If the government cannot find a solution, they should ask for the publics opinion. We, the people of America, are the primary ones being impacted by their complication. What do you think the government should do?
