Planning Brief

Production Brief
Project Name: Format: Length: Deadline: Group Members: Brief Overview: Enigma Opening sequence for a thriller/action. Maximum 2 minutes -Gursimran Deol and Jasdeep Jabbal The antagonist is leaving school, unaware that someone is filming/stalking her home. The protagonist films the antagonist through their phone. The protagonist continues to follow the antagonist; the antagonist stop in an alleyway to answer her phone, the protagonist follows her and punches the antagonist in the face. Then the protagonist uploads the footage on to YouTube. As a group we decided that our target audience will be aimed at people 15+, this is because many film genres similar to ours are rated 15. Also, the film contains acts of violence so this would not be suitable for children under 15 as they may re-enact the scene which could do harm. Also, our storyline is based on a schoolgirl so by aiming it at 15 year olds, the 15 year olds could relate to the film. Gender: Our film is not aimed at a certain gender because we would like as many people as possible to watch the film, so by aiming it at a certain gender, we would be limiting the amount of people who could watch it. Also, thriller/horror films are not divided by gender. Socio-economic groups: We will start filming on the 2nd week of October. We want to film on the 2nd week because we would like to get our production done quickly but also so we can do the production thoroughly without rushing the shots, angles etc. We decided this date so we can complete our pre-production and

post-production coursework done before the deadline. Our genre is horror/thriller, so this can relate to Paranormal Activity. Our film is similar to Paranormal Activity because in some of the shots they use Point Of View shots of the CCTV cameras; this is similar because in our production the protagonist is filming the antagonist through a mobile phone. The aim of the production is to attract our target audience so they can watch the film. To complete our aim, we will be adding specific elements such as sound to attract our audience and give the audience a scare and to create tension. For example; the sound can be eerie to show that something is going to happen which makes the audience will feel tensed. Also, we will use filters on top of the footage so it looks dark and gloomy so it matches the mise-en-scene. We will be portraying stereotypes to represent the characters, for example; the protagonist will be wearing all black, this is linked with a stereotype that people with hoods and that wear all black are associated with danger and threats. We will be testing whether our final production is successful by posting our final production onto YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. We will do this because our target audience mainly uses these social networking sites to socialise so they would have easy access to the production and can also give feedback. Another way we will test our production is by doing an online postproduction questionnaire, the audience can answer the questions after watching the production and can tell us whether they liked it or not. We will add sound effects such as; footsteps to create tension as the protagonist will be following the antagonist. Also, the sound will fade in and out to show that it is unpredictable and what might happen tp the antagonist is unpredictable. The obvious message is to be aware of your surroundings and look out for any unusual

behaviour. I dont think we included a hidden message as our obvious message is more useful and beneficial. Also, the audience will understand the obvious message more than having to find out the subliminal message. I think time may affect our production because we have to complete our preproduction and postproduction work as well as edit and film, the production. Time is a major issue because we want to make sure that our production makes sense and that the mise-en-scene matches the genre and creates an effect on the audience. If we were to rush our production due to time, the production would not be at its full potential and would look rushed; this would not make target audience want to watch the production.
