Year 4 Class Bulletin
Term 1 September 2009

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome to Year 4’s Term 1 Class Bulletin! I am very excited about teaching at Immanuel & St Andrew
and am looking forward to working with Year 4. It has been a great first week and they have already been
producing some lovely work. I am looking forward to meeting parents on the 23rd September at 3pm so
please do come along if you can.

We will be continuing to develop the creative curriculum this year and the theme for this term is ‘Ancient
Greece: Legends and Legacy’. Most of our work will be based around this and we will be looking at how
the Ancient Greeks used to live, the Olympics and Greek Gods. The children will also have the chance to
design and make their own Greek pots and take part in year 4 Olympics so trainers at the ready!

Li te rac y Homework will be given out on Friday and

Our unit for the first three weeks will be narratives based on
historical settings and in keeping with the Ancient Greece theme we
will be concentrating on the story of Hercules. The children will
analyse and identify the features of narratives with historical
settings and will plan, draft and write their own version of Hercules.
The latter part of the term, we will focus on information texts where
the children will learn how to collect and present information from
factual sources.
Num er ac y
Each week we will be focusing on a different aspect of number or
topic work, based on the National Numeracy Strategy.
RE
Th e Mu slim way of lif e – Children will look at the key beliefs and
teachings of Islam, making comparisons with Christianity. They will
have the opportunity to ask questions and suggest answers about
key aspects of Islam.
IC T
We will be integrating ICT into other areas of the curriculum which
ensures children have an authentic learning experience. This will
include looking at websites for research purposes, using databases
and graphs.
PE
Indoor PE – Gymnastics
Outdoor PE – Net/Wall games
due back on Wednesday. It will include a
topic or a literacy task, and spellings
each week.
Spellings – Children will have their
spelling test every Thursday afternoon.
There will be 10 spellings to learn each
week so I hope we will have a good
success rate!
PPA – I will not be in class on Thursdays
as it is my PPA time (planning,
preparation and assessment time). Mrs
White will be in class and she will focus
on Science, Reading Comprehension skills
in literacy and teach the art unit for this
term.
Outdoor PE will be on Friday after
break. Kit required: navy shorts or track
suit bottoms, pale blue t-shirt. Trainers.
Indoor PE will be on Wednesday
afternoons. Kit required: navy shorts and
pale blue t-shirt. Trainers are optional.

I would appreciate your support in

improving our school attendance level We will be taking a trip to the British
from 96.5% to 98%! Museum on the 14th October to see their
Ancient Greece exhibition.
Lastly please make sure your children
are in the playground at 8:50am ready
