Dear salute: Iowa has a rich heritage, founded in a deep love for family, God and country -- and grounded in personal responsibility and an honest days work. But these are tough times around the country, and Iowa hasnt been immune from this latest economic downturn. I believe we can pull through it. We just need to live by our tried and true traditional values -- and get our government to do the same. My name is Joe Pirillo, and Im running for the State Senate right here in District 21. Please fill out and return to me the enclosed questionnaire, so I can know what issues are important to you. My wife Judy and I were both raised with a strong commitment to family and our traditional values. Beginning at a very young age, my parents worked hard to instill in me a devotion to faith, family and freedom. What I remember most was not their words, but their living example of how to act with integrity, honor and respect. Those are the values we treasure in Iowa -- along with a firsthand knowledge of hard work. And believe me, my six years in the U.S. Marine Corps and owning my own business have taught me a lot about hard work! After working as a Certified Public Accountant for many years, I have

experienced firsthand the difficulties many hardworking Iowans face. Quite simply, I understand -- unlike some in Des Moines -- that its not easy to provide for and raise a family. This is what first inspired me to run for office. The fact is, small businesses make up the majority of Iowas business and are responsible for the majority of new job creation in the state. So, all new regulations and taxes do is hamstring our economy and ultimately put Iowans out of work. Not to mention the blatant attacks on our states Right to Work Law, which is nothing more than the Democrats attempt to pay back their Big Labor pals. Well, contrary to the special-interest crowd in Des Moines, I believe hard work should be rewarded, not penalized with higher taxes and more regulation. In these tough times, most Iowans are tightening their belts. I believe our state government should follow suit. Its about time our elected officials got back to the basics, focused on our priorities and cut the fat. But the fact is, theyre doing the exact opposite. You see, despite the tough economic times were facing, the last three budgets passed by Governor Culver and the Democrat leadership were the largest in state history. And last year, when faced with a nearly half-a-billion dollar budget deficit, the General Assembly didnt think for a second about cutting spending. Instead, they used stimulus money to balance the budget. And this was after they had already borrowed $765 million over the next 20 years, which will cost the taxpayers $1.1 billion in interest payments. But the so-called stimulus money the General Assembly used last year to

balance the budget wont always be there. So, if we dont get out-of-control spending under control -- and fast -- the only other option will be for the General Assembly to raise our taxes to make up for the shortfall. And since the Democrat leadership has already raised the sales tax by $500 million and attempted to push through a $250 million property tax increase, if we dont get spending under control, hard-working Iowa families will face massive tax hikes. I believe we need to get our government on track, and thats why Im asking for your support. If elected, I will work tirelessly to: *** Jumpstart our economy, by lowering taxes and cutting bureaucratic red tape -- and making sure that our cherished Right to Work Law remains intact; Streamline government. Ridding Iowa of wasteful spending projects and bloated bureaucracies will not only improve the efficiency of our state government but also will keep taxes low; Stop out-of-control spending. The tax-and-spend mentality in Des Moines is costing Iowa citizens millions. Members of the General Assembly must learn to stick to a budget, just like the rest of us; Ensure all Iowans have access to quality education, not by padding the pockets of bureaucrats but by restoring control of our kids education to parents and teachers; Protect traditional Iowa values, standing firm against assaults on the Second Amendment, the sanctity of life and our religious liberties.

I believe that Iowa needs more representatives in Des Moines who will fight for our traditional values -- not try to reshape them. If you agree, then I hope youll take a moment to fill out and return the enclosed survey. Having been a CPA for many years now, I know how to stick to a budget and make a small amount of money go a long way. I think you and I can agree that Iowas state government could use a little

financial planning. But despite all of the fiscal irresponsibility over the past four years, I have to admit, I cant help but be optimistic about Iowas future. You and I both know all it takes to get our great state back on track is a few concerned citizens who are willing to take action. Im dedicated to making Iowas future a bright one. But the truth is, I cant do it without your help. The November 2 General Election is fast approaching, so please agree to fill out and return the enclosed survey to my campaign immediately. And please, if you can, also include a contribution of $500, $250, $100, $75, $50 or $25 today so I can get the word out to other Iowans. Together, we can protect our traditional values and foster a businessfriendly atmosphere that will continue to make Iowa a great place to live and raise a family. Sincerely,

Joe Pirillo Republican Candidate Senate District 21 P.S. Its vital we elect candidates to the General Assembly who will stand for fiscal responsibility and defend our traditional values.
