Prerequisites For high school diploma candidates with senior status; advising required. Course Description Students develop a culminating project to reflect on their learning and plan for the future as related to the college-wide abilities. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Critically reflect in writing on significant learning during high school. [REASON] 2. Respond to feedback from instructor and classmates to create learning portfolio. [COMMUNICATE] 3. Organize time to meet benchmarks and complete project. [ACT] 4. Develop and deliver concise presentation of key project components. [COMMUNICATE] 5. Identify and access resources on and off campus to support the projects completion. [REASON] Policies Course Website (Canvas) and EdMail This section meets twice a week in class and includes a hybrid component which requires that students access our class Canvas website at least once a week. To access Canvas, go to the EdCC website (www.edcc.edu) and click on "eLearning Student or Instructor." You will be able to login to Canvas on the next page. Technical assistance is available 24/7 at 1-866-886-4854 or online through the EdCC website. To be successful in Bridge 101 students should plan to access and submit work into Canvas by course deadlines. So I can communicate individually with you when necessary, you also need to access your EdMail account. To learn how, see http://www.edcc.edu/edmail/. This web page also provides instructions on how to forward your EdMail to another email account you regularly check. EdCC Withdrawal (Drop) Policy and Attendance Students who do not attend at least 60% of the class meeting time in the first week will be dropped from the class and are eligible for a 100% refund (if tuition was charged to the student) and those who have not attended at least 60% of the class meetings by the end of the second week may be dropped with only a 50% refund being issued (again, if the student paid tuition). Students in the EdCAP and Running Start programs are not eligible for refunds.According to EdCC policy, it is the responsibility of the student to drop classes they stop attending (not the instructor). If you decide that you cannot meet the class policies and expectations, please drop the class immediately and meet with an advisor to select a different one. Drop forms are available in Enrollment Services and on the 1

college web site. For our class 60% of WEEK ONE is attending both classes and/or attending the 1 st day and accessing the assignments online. For our class 60% of WEEK TWO is having attended 3 classes and accessing the assignments on line. NOTE: The 60% is cumulative. A student who attends all of week one could be dropped during weeks 2 if they dont attend and access assignments. A student who is absent twice in the first 4 weeks without meeting benchmarks (including revisions) may need to withdraw from the course; the same expectation applies to the second four weeks. Finally, for a student to have the opportunity to deliver a final presentation, you MUST attend all classes during the weeks of presentation practice (see schedule) and you MUST have all portfolio work submitted and ACCEPTED by November 4th. A failure to meet either expectation will exclude you from presenting and passing the project. Attendance and Class Expectations Please be aware of the information in this section. The attendance policy for this class is that you must attend the mandatory classes, and you are expected to attend each class. Attendance is important to meet the class benchmarks. Creating and presenting a satisfactory culminating project is required. Failure to achieve 75% of the class benchmarks will result in the need to repeat the entire class unless there are exceptional circumstances that I am aware of ahead of time. Benchmarks are measured by meeting weekly assignment and revision expectations satisfactorily. If I refer you to the Writing Center, you must meet with a tutor there or you will not be able to have your portfolio submitted to the scorers. There are mandatory classes to develop and practice your demonstrations. You must attend to present your portfolio.

Plagiarism Edmonds Community College considers plagiarism grounds for disciplinary action. Classroom Environment This is a college learning environment and I will treat with you with respect. In return, I ask that you respect me as well as your fellow classmates. Come prepared, participate actively and with an open mind, and stick with it throughout the quarter. Be on time for class: coming in late or leaving in the middle disrupts the teaching and learning process. Turn cell phones and other personal electronics to silent and put them away. Unless asked to work collaboratively, keep side conversations to a minimum. For a complete list of appropriate/inappropriate classroom behaviors, please read page 15 of the EdCC Student Rights, Freedoms and Responsibilities Booklet. Evaluation and Grading The culminating project has two parts; a written portfolio and a demonstration of the skills you wrote about in the portfolio. You need to pass both parts to pass the class. Your instructor grades your portfolio, and a team made up of EDCC faculty and staff as well as members of the EDCC community scores your presentation. Scorers are trained and evaluate the presentation based on the standards you wrote to in class. The Portfolio You will be given three assignments that make up your portfolio. Each assignment will have a due date for your first draft and for a revision. I expect you to turn in the draft and revision by those due dates. If you miss the benchmarks for submitting your work, you may be asked to withdraw from the class. If you do not complete your portfolio by the due date or if the work is not up to passing standards, you will be given a U grade and need to retake the class. The Presentations In your presentations you will demonstrate the significant learning you described in your portfolio and explain its connection to your future plans. While we will be preparing for the portfolio throughout the quarter, we will use the last two weeks of class to rehearse the presentations. The presentations will be held either during our last week of classes or our finals time. Once we determine the day, save this date and time!!! You are required to attend this day! Grading Policy Students will receive an S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory) grade in this class. Your grade will be determined by how well your culminating portfolios contents and presentation meet the standards established. Feb 21 is the last day to withdraw from any class with a W. In certain situations I will consider giving students who miss this date a V (Instructor withdraw) grade. Students need to request a V grade by March 1.
