Section B: Summary Writing [10 marks] Read the passage below and complete the following task.

We had been almost a week on our expedition when we met with the first of our difficulties the weather seemed to be changing, and we encountered the first and fiercest of the snowstorms on this trek. The blizzard blew hard just as we arrived at the foot of the mountain. There was nothing we could do but to wait it out, sheltered in the rock face of the mountain. Finally, the storm abated and we moved on. Coming to the Roake River, we discovered to our dismay, the bridge had been washed away in the summer storms earlier. We plodded on lower down the river, and came finally to where it widened out and the water was shallower. Holding on to ropes, the seven of us made it safely across, wet and tired. In the course of this, Alex hurt his leg. He had twisted it crossing the river. Cursing his bad luck, he insisted on carrying on. Painfully, he trudged on, with each of us taking turns to support him on the way.
