Lit Circle Roles Summarizer:

Hw Write a summary that describes what happened in this section of the book. Be sure you write in complete sentences and include many details. Your writing should be a minimum of one page. In group You will read the summary to the group. Ask them to tell you about other important parts that you may have missed. Have each person tell you about their favorite part.

Discussion Leader:
Hw Write questions for your group to discuss. The qu estions should have to do with the section of the book you are reading. Be sure your questions are interesting and openended so everyone will be able to answer them in their own way. Examples: Were you surprised when _____________? Why or why not? Do you think the main character made a good choice when he/she ________? Explain. Why do you think the main character decided to _______________?

Word Wizard:
Hw Your job is to search for words in this section of the book that you ( or other in your group) might not know. After you find challenging words, tell where they are used in the story and find their definitions. Be careful to choose the definition that is most appropriate to the context. (5 minimum) In group First, share the challenging word you found. Show them where it is in the story. Then, have each person try to predict the definition. After everyone has shared their definitions, you can tell them the real meaning of the word.

Connector:
Hw Your job is to find parts from this section of the story that remind you of other things you are familiar with. You can relate it to other fictional stories, things you have heard in the news, historical events, or something you know from somewhere else. Then, describe how the two stories are alike. (hefty paragraph) In group Describe the section of the book that reminds you of another story or event you are familiar with. Describe how the two are alike. Then ask if anyone else can make other story connections.

Story Mapper:
Hw Your job is to choose or create a graphic organization such as a venn diagram, character traits chart, or other organizational tool. Draw or print out the chart and fill it with many details from your section of the text.

In group Be prepared to explain your organizational tool to your group. Tell why you chose to map it in this way and go over your details. Ask your group members if they can think of any other details they would add to your chart. *Every group member must do each of the listed one time only. Groups of six will have two connectors
each week. They should check in with each other to make sure they make different connections.
