Kansas to Close Regular Season Against West Virginia, Iowa State

LAWRENCE, Kan. The Kansas womens tennis team will finish its regular season this weekend when it faces West Virginia and Iowa State in dual matches at Jayhawk Tennis Center. Fridays match against the Mountaineers is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., while the match Sunday against Iowa State will start at noon. All fans in attendance on Sunday will receive a free hot dog and chips to help celebrate Senior Day. Kansas will honor one senior in its starting lineup for Senior DayVictoria Khanevskaya (a native of Moscow, Russia), who spent most of the spring season playing at the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles positions. The Jayhawks (8-9, 0-7 Big 12) are looking for their first dual victory in conference play in more than two years, with their last Big 12 win coming at home against Colorado, 61, on April 10, 2011. This weekends matches will offer an excellent opportunity to break that losing streak, which has extended to 21 consecutive losses against Big 12 opponents. Last weekend, KU fell in dual matches at home to No. 29 Texas (April 12) and No. 15 Texas Tech (April 14), each by a score of 6-1. Seven of the 10 Big 12 schools are currently listed in the top 75 of the ITA Womens Division I Team Rankings. SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA: The Mountaineers currently hold the Big 12s worst overall team record at 4-14 (0-7 in conference play), with their most recent loss coming at Iowa State, 5-2, on April 14. WVU nearly upended No. 27 TCU in its March 15 conference debut, narrowly falling to the Horned Frogs, 4-3, in Morgantown. West Virginia finished last season 4-16 in the Big East Conference. This will be its firstever meeting against Kansas in a dual womens tennis match. SCOUTING IOWA STATE: The Cyclones defeated Kansas for the first time in 35 meetings when they pulled-off a 6-1 victory in Ames on April 15 of last season. KU holds an all-time record of 37-3 in dual matches against Iowa State in program history. ISU is 8-12 overall this season and 1-6 in conference play, with its only Big 12 victory coming over West Virginia last weekend.
