Plot Summary Alex and Xander are twin brothers of the Marudo family.

Alex, being the eldest male of the clan, is destined to inherit the entire Marudo fortune, as is tradition, while Xander is relegated at the background as a shadow, never again to encounter the entire clan. Xander was sent to the US where he was taken care of by his grandparents. Alex was raised by his parents in the Philippines. While Xander grew up as a man with principles and ideals similar to what his father had envisioned for an heir, Alex on the other hand, grew spoiled and conceited, only concerned with his ego and his selfish ambitions. Out of disappointment of Alex, their father called-in Xander to take over Alexs responsibilities in their businesses. Alex was left alone to continue his debauchery. At one point however, Alex met Noleen, the princess of the Castillo clan and an accomplished talent manager and director. Alex, saw this as his stepping stone to stardom and an opportunity to get back at his saintly twin brother, for taking his place in the Marudo clan. Blind to the dark desires that Alex had instilled into Noleen, she became infatuated and obsessed in possessing the man. Alex though only plans to use this to secure his place in showbiz and leave her the minute he gets what he wants. Aware of the sly nature of Alex, Noleen devised a plan to permanently bind him to her by pretending to be pregnant. By including the families in the issue, she managed to trap Alex. However, due to Alexs protests and Xanders intervention, Alex died while on their way to the wedding. Because of his strong resemblance to Alex, his father decided to proceed with the marriage, and have him stand in the altar in place of Alex. Noleen at first, hated Xander for doing it. But upon discovering that she bears his child, she turned to him for solace. During the first few months of their marriage, Xander showed to her what it means to be loved by him. He took care of her, cherished her and made every moment a bliss for her, all to make amends on what he did to Alex and Noleen. She learned to love him, not as a replacement for her lost love, but as a person that she would love should the circumstances had changed. However, tragedy strikes. Erica Du Ville tried to commit suicide because Alex left her for Noleen. Her vengeful adopted brother, Kristian, sought to have Alex pay for this. Not knowing that Alex is already dead, he instead mistakenly beat Xander up in place of Alex. With Noleen intervening, she suffered a miscarriage during the ordeal. Noleen, wanting to take revenge against the people that was responsible for taking her child and beating her new found love, she orchestrated an elaborate plan to lure them out. With knowledge that it was one of Alexs former lovers, she had them listed and hunted down. But in this plan of hers, she had Xander pretend as Alex, and instructed to let all these women feel loved and well taken care of during their supposed relationship. It was a means to apologize to Alex for loving someone in his place, and also to make-up for all the sins that he committed. For this plan to work however, she had to make Xander must be kept in the dark and

have him believe that she was not truly in love with him, and that perhaps for him to be able to earn it, he would have to submit to all her whims and wishes. He agreed to this condition and had set out to do what he was ordered to. From then on, she had Xander do whatever was she believes is necessary to advance her plan. She had him date girls, act in movies, model, keep his true self hidden and even do bizarre requests. Xander endured all of this, all for the love that he believes would be given to him one day. Noleen though only pretended to feel nothing, but on the inside, was the opposite, and suffers for letting her love go through with all of this, for the sake of their happily ever after. However, Xander felt that his mission was not progressing well. He decided to leave everything behind to accomplish his burdens alone, hoping that in his return, perhaps his wife would now accept him. At the last day before he left though, Noleen had pushed him too far, and in so doing, made him doubt if he would truly be loved by her. During this time, he had Cruz, Xanders experimental baby friend, look after Noleen. Cruz, having messiah complex and a strong liking to broken women, saw her as another sheep in need of his help. In so doing, he was yet again infatuated with a woman in distress, hoping that this time, perhaps he would be their knight in shining armor.
