Taxes
Everyone who is resident in Germany or who has an income from Germany is subject to income tax on salaries, self-employed earnings and other sources of income, although there are various exemptions. Foreign nationals must obtain a tax registration card once they start working in Germany. Employers normally deduct tax direct from employees' salaries, along with social security contributions. It should be noted that if you are working as a Freelancer you will be responsible for sorting out your own Health Insurance. There are many different tax categories depending if you are married and/or have children. It is often better for people relocating alone to opt for private health insurance, this is usually cheaper and provides better cover.
