From the Commodore

March is here and my usual bottom boat painting project is typically on a warm day this month and launch by the 29th. I think I will postpone that for a while this year and go skiing again. It has been a winter wonder land in Port Clinton this year. The editor is patiently waiting for my with our roof. Anyone good at patching roof leaks under water? I have been told by some old timers that when we have this much ice on the lake, we have some interesting ice pile ups on the shores in the Spring. The club had many enjoyable events in February. It started off with the ever popular Krynock/Osborn BYOS. The Halfway to the Bay Party was a big hit and the Jr. Sail Spaghetti dinner was very tasty. Superb homemade meatballs by chief Vince Leone and secret sauce once again was made by chief PC John Stefano! Due to some extra consumption of beverages at the Valentines Day Dinner the challenge was made and accepted to reacquaint some lost skiers to the slopes at Snowtrails. We had a good time but the ski runs seemed to move and caused a few spills. Is that what happened Doug F? We have more enjoyable events scheduled for March so please check the calendar at the end of this jib sheet. The Social Committee made the final assignments for the upcoming year but we had to do our best with those members who forgot to submit their requests when paying their dues. We still could use a chairman for New Years Eve and are looking for volunteers for the Garden Committee (not a social event). The club is always a good place to watch your favorite basketball team during "March Madness". We will send out an

report. My excuse is that I was exhausted from helping Eric shovel about a foot of drifted snow around the clubhouse doors, sidewalks, and roof from the last snowfall. This heavy snow and then the warm ups has been playing havoc

email when we have a confirmed Riser Party date. We appreciate your help getting the marina ready for the summer season. We did not get all the dock risers painted last year and cannot paint them if you bring your boat in early. If you are a early launcher please make arrangements to paint your risers before you bring your boat into the harbor. It is hard to believe I am talking about docks when I have a feeling this may be a March to remember weather wise. See you at the Club. Commodore Michael Hablitzel

The Rear Perspective

Are we ever going to see spring? As I am writing this, I can confirm that the groundhog was correct, winter is still here. I have been in the Port Clinton area since 1986 and have never seen the activity of snowmobiles and ATVs commuting to the islands as we have this year. I hope everyone is surviving the snow and the cold. Im sure that you are looking forward to March. We should be noticing some signs indicating the transition to spring. Our club events sure can help with our winter blues. One new social event this year was the Half Way to the Bay party. It was very well attended and everyone there would say that they had a good time. I think that this event may become a regular yearly tradition. Thanks to the team that put this on, GREAT JOB. Eric again has been busy with snow removal and keeping things clear for the activities for our members. Between the weather events, Eric has replaced the electrical outlets in the foyer, hallways and the lounge areas. Also, he has been working on general lighting maintenance in the kitchen and lounge. The board has approved our new refuge agreement for a one year contract. This includes a new recycling program that will begin this spring. Look for new containers around the club and instructions will follow in future communications. This not only reduces costs, but is very good for the environment. By mid-March we will be working on our mens restroom renovation. We will take it out of service for several weeks and complete this project with member participation. We will be replacing the floor and renovating or replacing the partitions. Please let us know if you are willing to volunteer some time to work on this project. Our glass house replacement team has been working feverishly to review design issues and pricing. We have received our revised pricing and are getting close to a final number for the project. We are very pleased with both the latest design and cost. We will be giving our financial information to the Finance Committee this next month so we can move forward on a membership vote. Our goal is to vote at the May meeting. This is a great project that will change the face of our clubhouse dramatically and bring immense value to our members. We are always looking for ideas to improve our club. These ideas only come from you, our members. Please let us know what could make this place better. In the meantime, This is your Club, Use It and have fun. Doug Shealy

As spring slowly approaches it is time to start planning for some great summer weekends. We have five "CruiseOuts" currently on the books for 2014. I am hoping for bright sunshine and light winds (sorry sail fleet). Sign-up sheets will be dropped off at the bar shortly. Lets make this an exciting summer of cruising.
