INTRODUCTION
Brazil has 190 million people and about 800 professional football clubs. Surprisingly, over 25% of these people are passionate about football, and fans are basically only two teams: Flamengo and Vasco. The Millions Classic is the largest of Rio de Janeiro. The number of fans is not solely responsible for the explosion in popularity of the early 1970s. If on one side Flamengo and Vasco played only two decisions before this period, 16 were on the other end since. Names such as Zico and Roberto Dynamite, greatest players of all time in both clubs respectively, shared time and glories, taking the breath of football fans across the country. The classic, which has come to attract crowds of up to 175 thousand people, have on your resume superstars known in Brazil and worldwide, as Tita, Bebeto, Romario and Edmundo, all of them already having put both the red and black shirt as Vasco. Over the past 40 years, the two teams were among the most winners Brazil.

1. ORIGINS
Flamengo and Vasco have already competed in rowing long before they cross the lawns, but the entry of Vasco in Carioca Championship of 1922 just marking the first duel between the two in the beautiful game. The meeting took place in April. The two goals helped Cecy 'Hill Giant' win by 3-1, in a walk that would guarantee the title of Vasco logo on his debut in the first division of the state. The rivalry was intensified in the 1930s. The animosity against the Flamengo team 'St. Januarius' was strengthened with two devastating defeats. The first one in 1931, when he commanded the Russinho devastating 7-0 rout - the largest in the history of Millions Classic today - by scoring four times and in another 2-0 at full opening of the 'Estdio da Gvea'. On the other hand, Vasco felt the bitterness of seeing some of its biggest revelations wear the shirt of rivals, including Leonidas da Silva and Domingos da Guia. The distaste for each other grew and increase further in the following decades.

2. NUMBERS
When it comes to numbers, in direct confrontations between the two teams, the consensus is that Flamengo has a small advantage over archrival in terms of wins in the classic. Vasco already holds the record for most unbeaten - 23 games between 1945 and 1951 - and a greater number of consecutive wins - ten between 1947 and 1949.

3. UNFORGETTABLE GAMES
The Flamengo came to the decision of the Carioca, 1944 seeking his third consecutive title, but it was not the favorite. The team of San Gennaro boasted an enviable team, who would soon become the first to win a South American title, while the stars Domingos da Guia, Leonidas da Silva and Percio left Gvea. Moreover, Flamengo had so much trouble by injury that coach Flavio Costa was forced to bring back discouraged Agustn Valid for lawns. Were played 41 minutes of the second half and the score still had not left the ground. That's when the old Argentine left back and amended cross a bomb, swinging chains of Vasco and taking home the title in what would now definitely your last performance. When opened Flamengo 2-0 in the penalty shootout that decided the Guanabara Cup 1976, Vasco now need a minor miracle to keep the title stay with the illustrious enemy. Not to mention that the next collector was none other than Zico, described by coach Carlos Froner as the "king of penalties" - although later end up being remembered, in this regard, the tragic wasted collection against France in the quarterfinals of the Copa World Cup Mexico 1986. With a nearly perfect hindsight brand of lime, Zico had feet the chance to secure the trophy. But Mazzaropi jumped to the right and kick defended the jersey (10) in December Roberto Dynamite tied for 4-4 and, after Geraldo wasted the second consecutive billing flamenguista, Lus Carlos

secured the team's victory in Vasco, which eventually contributed to the origin of the nickname "turnaround team". As we watch two consecutive victories vascanas by 1-0 in the finals of Cariocas and 88, 1987 were not suffering enough, flamenguistas also had to digest the fact of seeing former players stand out as his executioners. At first, it was Tita, highlight Flamengo in the heydays of the early 1980s, who puffed networks and scored the only goal of the match. The following year, Cocada, which had been discarded by Flamengo, Vasco came off the bench and set the game with a shot of rare beauty have the lights out. The commemoration of the explosive right side was the trigger for a general confusion which ended with the expulsion of the player, and Romario, Renato Gacho and Alcindo. But for many fans of the classic Vasco most memorable happened in the Brazilian Championship in 1997, when Edmund led the team to victory by 4-1 with three goals and an inspired presentation, ranking the team for the final, won with merit. Have the fans will savor forever Flemish encounter of 2001. The Crimson-Black had beaten his rival in the final of the two previous editions of the state championship, but this time had to win the second match of the decision by a difference of two goals to become a triple champion. At 8 minutes of the second half, Flamengo won by 2-1 thanks to two goals by Edilson and reflexes determined Julius Caesar. With two minutes to the end of the match, Vasco committed an infraction and Dejan Petkovic was for recovery. The Serbian placed the ball perfectly in the corner of Helton, to the party of players and an explosion of joy Zagallo. This episode was one of the saddest in the history of Vasco, and contradicts one of the most memorable moments of this rivalry by hand Crimson-Black.
