:Experimental Investigation For The Performance Of Simple Solar Still In Iraqi North

By Omer Khalil Ahmed, Ahmed Hassan Ahmed, Khalil Ibrahim Mohammad The aims of this research to present the possibility of using simple solar still to distillation of saline water in the northern areas of Iraq as well as to verify the reliability of research results published in the past to reach the standard adopted in determining the operational variables which affecting on the performance of solar still . A series of tests to demonstrate the effect of the thickness of water in the basin on the productivity of solar still, the study showed productivity distilled rely mainly on the thick layer of water and it was also noted that the presence of local wind reduces the performance of solar still, but slightly. The presence of dye in the water was reduced the productivity of still and therefore, this option is not desirable to reach an improvement in the still productivity, except in the case of the use of special pigments to absorb large quantities of solar radiation, which imported materials and increase the cost of distillation. It also increased the salinity of the water in the basin of still leading to reduction in productivity and this reduction increased with the increased concentration of salt. Title

By G.N. Tiwari *, H.N. Singh, Rajesh Tripathi Centre for Energy Studies, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110016, India

In this communication an attempt has been made to review, in brief, work on solar distillation, its present status in the world today and its future perspective. The review also includes water sources, water demand, availability of potable water and purification methods including the state of art and historical background. The classification of distillation units has been done on the basis of literature survey till today. The basic heat and mass transfer relation responsible fordeveloping, testing procedure for various designs of solar stills have also been discussed. The present status of solar distillation units in India, economics of single and double slope fibre re-inforced plastic on the basis of long-term performance and recommendations for future have been discussed in brief.

Title : Effect of different absorbing materials on solarDistillation under the climatic condition of Manipal Dr. S. Shanmuga Priya 1*, Umair Iqbal Mahadi2 1 .Associate Professor,Department of Chemical Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka, India 2. Master of Technology,Department of Chemical Engineering Manipal Institute of technology, Karnataka, India Solar distillation can be used effectively to produce portable water using sea water, but its low efficiency has restricted itsutilization. It could be still employed at hot climatic geographical locations such as Manipal effectively to produce portable drinking water. The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of different absorbing materials on distillate production under the climatic condition of Manipal so as achieve maximum distillate. Singlebasin double slope solar still with an effective insolation area of 0.6m2 was used to carry out the investigation. Experimental results as expected showed that the distillate production increased with different absorbing materials as compared to distillate production without any absorbing materials. Ink and dye were used as absorbing materials and results were compared against distillation with any absorbing materials.
