1. Introduction
This Axle Weighing System is a software application for the Cardinal 825 Programmable Weight Indicator to weigh vehicles in motion. It has two modes of operation: static and dynamic. In the static mode, the system waits for each axle to be confirmed by button key press. In the dynamic mode the truck passes smoothly and continuously across the axle platform and the weight of all axles is stored automatically. The weighing report data is stored in 825 and may be downloaded on a USB flash drive at any time. A maximum of eleven axles can be accommodated and the average truck speed should be no more than 4 km/h for dynamic mode using 75 cm axle platform. On a small platform like 42 cm axle pad such as the VWAP20 the maximum speed must be limited to 2 km/h. For static mode the screen space is currently limited to 6 axles. 1.1 825 Alphanumeric keypad
825 keypad has 46 buttons and 4 navigation keys( , , , ) which may be used to input alphanumeric information and navigate through 825 screen. Other than the alphanumeric keys there are other buttons such as: ENTER, SPACE, FUNCT, SHIFT and ESC (). ENTER used to confirm end of data input. SPACE used to put spaces between characters. SHIFT used to change characters case. ESC() used to delete previously entered character. FUNCT used before pressing a numeric key to output the symbol upper right of each key.

Aside: If at any input boxes in this program the user wishes to return to the previous screen, (LEFT ARROW) or SHIFT+ESC should be pressed.

2. Main Menu Screen

On power up, the indicator will take a minute or so to run through the start sequence and will then automatically show the following screen.

Press A on an 825 keypad to call ABOUT splash screen; Press M on a 825 keypad to enter user menu (the entry password is 2909); Press Z on an 825 keypad to zero the scale; Press S on a 825 keypad to quickly select STATIC mode (reverts after power off); Press D on an 825 keypad to quickly select DYNAMIC mode (reverts after power off); Press R on an 825 keypad to re-print the ticket. ONLY FOR LAST WEIGHING; For technicians or supervisors only, there are the following password protected options. Press X on a 825 keypad to exit to application menu (the entry password is 2909); Press C on a 825 keypad to trigger data capture mode (the entry password is 2909); 2.1. Working modes. There are two working modes: static weighing and dynamic weighing.
2.1.1. Static mode

Static weighing is a more accurate way of obtaining a weight from the axle pads, but it also takes slightly more time. To do a static weighing select STATIC = YES in the setup menu (press M on the main screen to enter the Setup menu), or press the S key to temporary select the static mode. After the required PASS number is selected (whether is it the 1st or 2nd pass of the truck), and the truck ID is entered or selected from the list, the system runs the STATIC weighing screen:

Drive the 1st axle of the vehicle onto the axle pad and ensure that both wheels are fully on the weighing area of the platform. Press the AXLE button to store the axle weight. Repeat this procedure for all axles. Press STOP or ABORT to cancel the weighing. Press END once all axles have been weighed to finish the weighing and print the ticket. To reprint a ticket press R on the keypad. Press BACKSPACE to cancel last stored axle weight value.
2.1.2 Dynamic mode

In dynamic mode (as for static) the user must select the required pass number (PASS1 or PASS2 of the truck) and then enter the TRUCK ID for PASS1 or select the ID from the list for PASS2. Dynamic mode may be set to ON from the main menu by pressing the D key or set in the MENU (by pressing M). PASS1 ID SELECTION PASS2 ID SELECTION

It is important to enter the ID carefully for PASS1 as this will be the ID selected from the list for the 2nd pass.

When the ID is selected from the list the confirmation screen will be shown:

Press YES to confirm the selection or NO to return back to the list.

3. Weighing process
3.1. Weighing in dynamic mode The vehicle must pass over the platform in a smooth and continuous motion. The speed should not exceed 2km/h when using the VWAP20 pads. The weighing process is complete when the Axle Time Out time selected in the Setup Menu (see section 4.2) has passed:

The following items are displayed on the screen: AXLE NUMBER, AXLE WEIGHT, KG, AXLE SPEED IN km/h. Press the OK button to return to the main menu. The system will check if the speed of each axle is below the maximum allowed speed and will show a speed error if it is exceeded.

On the 2nd PASS the ticket will be printed. Press R on the keyboard when on the main screen to re-print the last ticket.

4. Settings
4.1. User menu Press M on the main screen to enter the system settings. The default password is 2909.

Then press SETUP PARAMETERS

4.2. Weight parameters Min wgt (KG):500: The system starts to capture when the weight on the platform is bigger than this value;

Timeout (SEC):10: This is the time period that the system waits between axles before completing the weighing. Please ensure that you do not entering a value that is too small as this may stop the weighing between distant axles for long vehicles; Max speed (KM/H):4: After the axle weight is calculated the speed of the truck is controlled. The recommended speed limit for the 42cm axle pad is 2km/h. Enter 0 to disable the speed limit. Static mode:N: Select YES, if the system is to run in a STATIC mode. If NO is selected the system will work in dynamic mode. This may be quickly selected via D and S from the main screen. When the option is set via the main menu it resets to default after the indicator is powered off. Ticket label:: Enter a 20 character maximum customer name to be printed in a ticket header. RF(COM) (if installed) 1,2,3; Radio tag 825 com port. Always use 0 to disable in this version; SB(COM) (if installed) 1,2,3; Scoreboard 825 com port. Use 0 to disable; PRINTER(COM) (if installed) 1,2,3; Printer 825 com port. Use 0 to disable; PLATFORM (CM):75: - the platform length in CM; SHOW AXLES:(Y/N) prints the axles information on the ticket; DIVISIONS(KG):: - the division value to use the weight on 825; STAND BY TIME(MIN):: if none zero, shows the time on SB after this time in MN; TIRE SIZE(CM):: - the average size of the grand part of tire in CM; AUTO PRINT:: - 0-no ticket is issue, 1-auto print ticket, 2-prompt Y/N for ticket; PASS1 TICKET:(Y/N) the option to print pass1 ticket; SINGLE PASS:(Y/N) If N the system will work as Pass1 and Pass2 WB system; SHOW LOGO:(Y/N) show graphic logo during start up; AUTO MODE:(Y/N) if set to YES then continuously runs single pass mode without exit to main screen; SB AXLE DELAY(SEC):: The time delay after weighing is completed between axle number show and axle weight show on SB display;

CALC METHOD:: 1 AVR MAX, 2 MID (777 middle point), 3 HL2 (uses second half of the signal); each method is individual for axle weighbridge and axle pads. Best method may be obtained by experiments on site (when dynamic gross weight is as much closer to static gross weight). Note, that it is not recommended to compare only axle weight between dynamic and static but is advised to look for overall gross weight of the vehicle.

4.3. Ticket When the weighing is completed the ticket is printed. Please note, that the ticket is printed only when PASS2 is completed, if the setting Pass1 ticket is set to NO. ******************** CUSTOMER NAME TRUCK ID DATE TIME GROSS NETT TARE ******************** The ticket also is printed on single pass when AUTO PRINT is set to 1 or 2 and PRN button is selected. ******************** Customer name AUTO 27-01-2010 19:25 Gross: 12115 KG Axle information Axle 1 6535 KG Axle 2 5580 KG ******************** When AUTO PRINT is set to 0 the ticket is not printed. When AUTO PRINT is 2 the following two buttons are available automatically after the weighing is finished.

Press PRN to print or press END to skip printing. 4.4. Info Press to see the system information of the current indicator with its settings and calibration.

4.5. Date/Time Select this option to adjust the indicator date and time settings. 4.6. Send Report Use this option when all completed transactions are to be copied to the USB drive. PLEASE NOTE: It is important that the USB stick is inserted into the USB drive of the 825 before attempting to send the data.

THE USB STICK MUST BE INSERTED IN THE BOTTOM OF THE INDICATOR INTO THE USB PORT CLOSEST TO THE MAIN BOARD (FURTHEST FROM THE ETHERNET PORT). Please see the 825 manual for further information on this. Simple press the SEND REPORT button and follow the on screen instructions precisely.

4.7. Clear Report Use this option to clear the report data, without sending them to the USB drive.

4.8. Delete Pass1 Use this option to delete pass 1 data (1st weights that are not required). After a record has been deleted it cannot be recovered. Please use this with care.
