Civil/Structural Engineer - Compression Projects Reference Code EXT50831521-01 Location Calgary, AB Canada Contract Type Regular Full-time

General Information TransCanada is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer within the Compression Projects Group. The Compression Projects group provides the following critical services for the effective delivery of capacity capital compression and energy related projects: - Technical support for business development projects; - Assistance in scoping and development of projects; - Compliance to design and construction specifications and standards; - Front-end conceptual design; - Monitoring of engineering contractors and review of their work; - Technical support for fabrication, construction and (de)commissioning; - Development review of engineering standards. The successful candidate must have five or more years of progressive engineering experience in the design and installation/commissioning of gas/oil processing, energy or transmission facilities, and be familiar with the impact of design on operation and maintenance considerations. Knowledge of applicable Canadian Codes and Acts, best practices for design, construction, fabrication and commissioning of pipelines and related facilities, and quality assurance/quality control of drawings and designs is expected. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries, and be results oriented. *This position is eligible for domestic relocation assistance, but is not eligible for cross-border relocation assistance. Responsibilities - Ensure that project designs are fit-to-purpose and demonstrated to meet project development expectations (such as performance and cost) as well as technical, regulatory, environmental, commercial, safety, operating, and maintenance requirements; - Ensure the project civil/structural engineering needs are being met: - Monitor quality, timeliness, and cost of work performed;

- Provide oversight of the engineering contractor (who is accountable for detailed design); - Collaborate with specialized internal engineering teams and other stakeholders; - Application of engineering principles, codes, and standards to identify issues, recommend improvements and implement solutions; - Provide technical direction for the modification, upgrade, and construction of TransCanada's compression facilities; - Provide engineering technical troubleshooting support to TransCanada field operations and commercial stakeholders on major projects; - Plan, prioritize and manage work with project team members and external partners; - Report progress and breakdown to Project Managers and management; - Ability to work at a high level providing guidance and direction to engineering, fabrication, and construction contractors and junior group members while at the same time completing work assigned as per responsibilities listed above; - Oversee the work of internal engineers and designers; - Identify required training or development opportunities; - Establish and continuously improve construction standards, procedures and specifications; - Enhance engineering and construction quality assurance and quality control requirements; - Provide or oversee quality assurance and quality control activities; - Other tasks as required. Qualifications and Education Qualifications: - Design experience in structures, foundations and site grading; - Strong verbal and written communication skills; - Excellent networking ability; - Familiar with applicable industry codes and standards including knowledge of North American design code and environmental regulations; - Demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills; - Ability to recognize and adapt to changing business priorities; - Self-motivated and results driven; - Familiar with TransCanada facilities and operations; - Leadership skills with an aptitude for working in a team environment; - Approximately 10% travel required across North America. Education/Experience: - Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with 6 to 8 years of work experience; - Must be registered or eligible to register as a professional with APEGA. *This position requires candidates to: - Have and maintain a valid driver's license; - Provide a driver's abstract for review. *This position will require travel across borders and as such the candidate must be able to provide applicable documentation to this affect.
