Use appropriate words found in easy. reading texts and knows what they mean. Name some basic parts of a computer. Ask questions to find what an unfamiliar word means.

Begin to use more words to describe what happens everyday. Begin to use topic words when talking and writing. Identify words I dont know and tries to work out what it means from what they know.

CLUSTER 4 VOCABULARY

used words in texts and shows this understanding when writing and speaking. Begin to understand word families and

demonstrates this understanding when reading and writing. Use the background of the text as well as

the sentence structure to work out an unknown word

CLUSTER 5 VOCABULARY

Use my existing understanding of theme words when reading, writing and speaking. Correctly use a variety of basic computer and internet language, eg icon, bold, italics, home page. Show my understanding that some words have more than one meaning when reading, writing and speaking. Understand that when words are changed within a text, it can affect the meaning

Show my ability to use exact vocabulary to discuss and express feelings and experiences when speaking and writing. Begin to show my understanding of different words and phrases effect on the audience eg to create humour, to persuade, to inform.

Write new words from a known word by changing or adding beginning or endings e.g. move, moving, remove.

Use words in the classroom to improve understanding of word meaning , e.g. topic words, wall charts, labels, etc by myself.

CLUSTER 7 VOCABULARY

Understand the meaning of everyday words in more challenging texts and show how I use this knowledge when reading, writing and speaking. Understand word play by using alliteration and onomatopoeia. Use my knowledge about word families and word origins to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words, e.g. rhyming words, synonyms, base words.

Use words and phrases for effect, e.g. to create images, to add emphasis, to create atmosphere. Draw on topic or content knowledge to assist in working out the meaning of unknown words. Understand the vocabulary associated with electronic texts.

Recognise that different words can be used to describe similar concepts, e.g. every day or technical language, synonyms.

Improve my vocabulary choices in response to purpose and audience when reviewing and editing writing.
