There are two other things I would like to add. The strange man: By August 12, 2013, the date of my daughters memorial service, I was convinced that Melaney had not lain herse lf on the railroad tracks. I was concerned that someone had assaulted her and then put her there to cover the crime. With thoughts that the person who did that might attend the service, I observed the crowd as I approached the park from across the street from the library. I scanned over the crowd and saw people engaged and postured appropriately for the situation. But I saw someone who did not seem to be part of the crowd. He seemed to be observing the crowd. He was either leaning or standing very close to an old vehicle that seemed like a jeep, or a small pickup converted to extreme terrain use, like desert use. It was faded red with possibly gray, or may also have been dusty. He was a white man somewhere between 45 and 55, 510, about 160/170, fit with tan that seemed permanent. He was dressed in maintenance like clothing: possibly lace up boots, baggy, possibly dark tan, cotton khaki or canvas pants and a faded dark green or blue button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up. His hair was longish, dark with blond, a full beard that was dark brown, and a rough look about him. He had a hard air about him and seemed agitated. I had an impression that he might be a step above being homeless. I had never seen him in Marfa before then. He noticed me looking at him and stood away from the vehicle and started walking into the crowd. He abruptly turned around and walked across the street on the other side of vehicles that were parked there. It appeared that he was engaged in conversation with some people there, one possibly a woman. I moved in to the designated area and lost track of the man. During the service, I saw him walking on the park side of the street toward the post office, then come back and walk on the other side of the street and cross the railroad tracks. He seemed to be circling the area. I felt frightened by him. There was also a vehicle that passed by the service three or four times, possibly a white ford pickup, older, but that was probably just curiosity. Flor: This should only be taken as an aside and may have no connection to anything. Melaney had problems at work with her supervisor, Flor (last name unknown). She had been talking for months about how Flor just didnt like her and tried to find fault in anything Melaney did. I dont know why Flor harassed Melaney and Melaney did not understand it either. I only mention her

name because she was the only person Melaney seemed to have bad relations with in Marfa. Melaneys other co-workers thought she was a great employee. Flor's involvement would not really make sense, but nothing else does either. - Liz Parker
