Are You Thinking Christmas? By Mary Tesser

Yes, it’s time…time to think Christmas! Time to cele-
brate God’s good news. Time to stretch beyond ourselves
and be a blessing to others. First Federated has chosen
two important projects for
this Christmas season. Your gift can bring

over 69 million gift-filled shoe boxes
to needy children in over 130 countries. Last year 511 of
those boxes came from FFC. Our goal this year is 600!
What difference can one small box make to a child who needs so much? Your gift
can bring love, joy and hope in the midst of the most desperate circumstances imagin-
able. It brings a message to a child that says “I am loved.” While the toys and gifts are
a wonderful expression of kindness, Operation Christmas Child is ultimately about
sharing much more. It is about offering a true and lasting treasure—the message of
God’s greatest gift to mankind through His Son Jesus Christ.
Proverbs 18:16 says, “A gift makes way for the giver…” and that has proven true
with shoe box gifts. These gifts open the door for local churches to share the Gospel
message, distribute Bible study materials, and offer follow-up discipleship programs
to children and their families. Entire communities have been introduced to the love
of Jesus through this ministry. Again and again shoe box distributions have been
welcomed in countries that are otherwise closed or hostile to the Gospel.
This year Samaritan’s Purse has added an exciting new feature. If you make your
donation ($7 or more per box) for shipping and follow-up materials online, you can
print a bar-coded label to attach to your shoe box. When your box is shipped to its
destination country, you’ll receive an email telling
you where your box is going. You’ll be able to pray

geography, too!
