Warning: Did you give your teacher your writing from Unit #1 and #3? He/she wont accept your assignment until he/she has seen your other writing submissions.

You are going to write an opinion essay. Remember, your essay must have four paragraphs. Remember that a paragraph usually has approximately 5-7 sentences. Choose one of the following topics: Option One Option Two In your opinion, what should people Do you agree or disagree with the do in order to increase their lifespan? following statement: living longer causes more problems than the benefits it provides. TOTAL TIME: 3 hours Step One: Prepare to Write (10 minutes + Homework) a) Work with a partner or a group. Take turns talking about all three options. You dont have to write anything. b) Independently, decide which option you want to write about. c) Think about what you are going to write about. Put your ideas in your notebook. Include examples and details in your notes. Your notes should be rough and in point form. Dont worry about grammar, spelling, or using complete sentences when you are brainstorming. d) Create an outline using the example on p. 64 of your textbook. e) After you finish, show your outline to your teacher. He or she will tell you if you need more ideas. Step Two: Write a First Draft (90 minutes) a) Look at the rubric that your teacher will use to give you a grade. What is he or she looking for? Remember these points when you begin to write. b) Ask your teacher for paper for your first draft. You have to write your essay on this paper. It must include four paragraphs. Please remember to double-space your assignment. c) Make sure you include an introduction paragraph, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph. d) Use a variety of simple sentences, compound sentences, and compound-complex sentences. e) You cant finish your essay at home, and you cant bring notes from home into the class. However, you can use a dictionary, your textbook, and the Writing Supplement. You can also ask classmates for help! Step Three: Revise and Edit (30 minutes) a) With your teacher, make a list of things that you are going to look for when you review your classmates assignments. The rubric can help you. b) Exchange your essay with a partner. You are going to help your partner by editing their assignment. Find errors, make corrections, and give suggestions. It is ok to write on your partners paper, but please dont erase anything. c) Exchange your essay with another partner and help them by editing their assignment. d) Look at the corrections and comments that your editors made. If you dont understand something, ask them for clarification. You can choose to accept or ignore their advice. Step Four: Write a Final Draft (50 minutes) a) Rewrite your final draft in class. Again, remember to double-space your essay. b) When you finish, read your assignment one more time. Are there any mistakes? c) Please give your teacher your first draft and final draft. You must submit both. Your teacher will not accept your final draft without a first draft, but he/she is only going to give you a grade for your final draft. Option Three Do you think immortality, when attainable, should be available to everyone or only a selected group of people? Why?
