In Local News Kean residents, be sure that you're checking your rooms for any fire hazards and following the university's prohibited items policies. Montclair University experienced a fire in one of the dorms last night. The fire was due to a student leaving a candle burning, which ignited the curtains. Candles in the dorms are against Montclair's policies, similar to Kean. The fire occurred in Gibson Hall, a new hall opened in 2011, housing 2,000 students. Thankfully, everyone was evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.

You can expect to see some new greenery popping up in the state in the near future. Hurricane Sandy, who hit in October of 2012, destroyed thousands of trees across the state. A new program is being launched, partnering with a non-profit organization, Arbor Day Foundation, where 115,000 (ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN THOUSAND) new trees will be given to residents throughout the state. The program is called The New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign, and more than 100 towns will be participating. There will be more than 30 species of tree to choose from, and residents from participating towns may choose what kind of tree they would like and replant them in their own backyard. Trees will be available until April 19.

In Washington DC, officials searching a park for a missing 8-year old girl instead discover a body matching the description of her kidnapper. Relisha (RUH-LEE-SHA) Rudd, a young resident of a DC homeless shelter was last seen on March 1 with Kahlil (KAA-LEEL) Tatum, a 51-year old janitor at Rudd's shelter. On March 2, authorities say Tatum purchased black 42-gallon trashbags and then spent a considerable amount of time in DC's aquatic gardens. Tatum attended work and was spotted numerous times between March 2 and March 20, with no sign of Rudd present. Tatum had not been seen since March 20. The body of Tatum's wife was discovered in a Maryland Motel last week, intensifying the search for Relisha Rudd.

Rearview cameras will be required on all cars starting May of 2018. The National Highway traffic Safety Administration will require all new cars to be equipped with back-up camera technology. This rule is a result of consumer groups and families who have experienced a "back-over accident," especially children in parking lots. The new law is projected to save 58 to 69 lives per year.

Guinea is facing an Ebola (E-BOWL-AH) outbreak. The virus is not contained to one geographical location, but is rather scattered throughout the area, making this a unique battle. Two cases have also been found in Liberia, and one suspected case is in Sierra Leone. All three of these victims have travelled to Guinea lately. Guinea's health ministry says there has been 78 deaths from 122 suspected Ebola cases since January. 24 of the deaths have been confirmed Ebola in the laboratory. The Ebola virus causes initial flu-like symptoms before causing advanced symptoms such as rash and poor liver or kidney function. Ebola has no vaccine and a 90% fatality rate.

Despite years of worldwide outrage, Japan has continued a tradition of an annual whale hunt. The International Court of Justice, a division of the U.N., put a stop to this whale massacre yesterday, saying Japan can no longer continue its annual hunt. There is a loophole in animal protection laws stating that killing may occur for scientific purposes, an argument Japan used that was rejected by the U.N. Whale meat is often available for consumption in Japan, but it seems that will be no more. Australian government challenged the Japanese hunting program in the International Court of Justice, leading to the ban on whale hunting.
