Introduction + Vision >>

Intro to Parents Guide
Looking at the newday website and Facebook page as a parent, you may have wondered about the practical side of allowing your child to come to this event. If so, this Guide for Parents is for you. In this document you will discover more about the vision and values of the event and learn how your child will be taken care of.

Vision + History
Newday Midwest exists to glorify God through the spiritual development of the next generation. We are called to connect as many young people to Jesus as we possibly can. Newday Midwest is an annual summer gathering of youth groups from around the Midwest region within the Newfrontiers USA family of churches. We spend nearly a full week each summer serving a city, making friends, and (most importantly) encountering Jesus. This year, we are serving Joplin, MO in an effort to help continue rebuilding the city after a devastating E5 tornado hit in May of 2011. Last year, we saw fantastic growth in our youth, and are excited to return for another week of impact.

Encounter Jesus>>Make Friends>>Serve a City

Newday Midwest is a 4-day event for young people where we get to encounter Jesus together. We spend time worshipping God, listening to teaching from the Bible and praying together in our main meetings. In our morning small groups we can dig deeper in to what God is doing in our lives on a more personal level and pray with each other about life issues. We also have the chance to put Gods love into action in the local community, with lots of outreach and social action projects in Joplin, MO. And of course there are loads of opportunities to relax and make new friends while taking advantage of all that Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) has to offer including a movie theater, game room, basketball, and sand volleyball! Event Safety Regulations >>

With around 300 young people on site, we take safety very seriously. We work very closely with the local church and MSSU campus authorities to provide a safe environment for your child.

Group Coordinators
Your Group Coordinator is the person with overall responsibility for your young persons church group. We ask church groups to ensure that they bring at least one responsible adult for every six young people under 18 that they bring to newday, to make sure everyone is properly supervised.

newday Assistant Leaders

As part of our vision to develop the next generation of leaders, we will be continuing our newday Assistant Leader program. This program asks each Youth Leader to identify a few members of the youth group that show a desire to grow as a leader and an ability to follow through when given responsibilities. These campers are asked to help lead morning discussions in their small groups, pray for other campers, and ensure that rules are being followed. newday Assistant Leaders are not chosen lightly.

In Emergency
A professional team provides First Aid cover on site and we have appropriate arrangements made with MSSU campus emergency services, should an accident occur. And, of course, we make sure all sporting activities are carefully supervised with appropriate safety equipment.

Identification
We require all persons associated with newday MW (campers, leaders, and volunteers alike) to wear a lanyard and ID badge during the event. This ensures we can identify easily anyone not part of our group, as well as all those who are important in case of injury or accident. Furthermore, ID badges will be required for access to all meals.

Child Protection
We have a number of church elders on site available for advice and training, both for young people, their supervising adults and event volunteers. All our volunteers are asked to adhere to the newday 2013 Child Protection Policy and all those in direct contact with young people must have undergone a Criminal Records Bureau check. This also applies to anyone joining the Ministry Team, the team that prays for young people (when requested) and to all our Team Leaders and the Event Management Team. In addition, every volunteer must provide a recommendation of their suitability to serve from their church leader.

Do(s) + Dont(s) >>

Do(s):
>>Make sure that your child brings to newday any regular medication they may need, such as inhalers or hay fever tablets, especially if they have diabetes, epilepsy or suffer from allergies. >>Name everything that might get left lying around. Every year we collect numbers of Bibles, mobile phones, sweatshirts and other items of lost property. We keep this at the front desk of the dorm during the event and do our best to return items, if theyre labeled. >>Think about the weather. No matter what the forecast, your child will probably need sunscreen and something waterproof to wear, to cover every eventuality. >>Encourage your child to keep to the curfew. Campers are asked to be in their rooms by 10:30pm, lights out by 11.00pm. This is both for safety purposes and to ensure everyone on site enjoys their stay away from home and gets enough sleep! There are plenty of fun things to do during the day and we wouldnt want any of our young people to miss out.

Dont(s)
>>We advise young people not to bring anything very valuable with them. >>We dont allow any alcohol on site. This means that no young person will have access to alcohol at any time while they are on site.

Accessibility + Special Needs >>

We want to make sure everyone who comes to newday gets as much out of the event as possible. If your child has specific requirements, which means they may need some extra help on site, please let us know by checking the accessibility box on the online registration form. Our Accessibility Coordinator will get in touch soon after you book to see if theres anything we can reasonably do to help.

Contacting Your Child >>

If your child has a mobile phone this is the most direct way to contact them. You can always contact the newday office by telephone or email during the event if urgent and well pass a message via the Group Coordinator. The telephone number will be published on our electronic letter to delegates, which is sent by email shortly before the event.

Meetings
We run two main meetings each day. They consist of a time of worship (singing) and a talk. These meetings are also the place where your child can hear any housekeeping notices.

Outreach + Social Action

Campers will be assigned to a social action group for the week. Activities include painting, car washes, fundraising, etc. If you have any concerns about which social actions your child may not be suitable for, please contact your local youth leader or our team to discuss the details.

Free Time + Recreation

Campers will be given ample free time to help relax between organized activities. They will be given access to a game room (ping pong, pool table), theater, campus commons, and outdoor recreation complex complete with basketball and sand volleyball.
