Fight Club

Found Poetry Character Analysis In this assignment you will use the language of your novel to create a poetic character study of the narrator. At the heart of most protagonists is a dynamic character that undergoes personal change throughout the course of the novel because of his/her experiences, but in Fight Club this idea is taken to extremes by Tyler Durden. You will create a found poem to represent the narrator as he is at the start and one for who he is by the end. It should be clear to anyone viewing this assignment who the character is without reading the book. Poem Criteria: 10 lines (minimum) of text directly from the story Lines should be longer than 3 words for most of the poem These lines may be direct quotations, descriptions, or actions Rough copy must have the page numbers of where the quotes came from You may not insert any of your own words Lines chosen should slowly reveal who the character is and not merely what he/she looks like (unless this is integral to understanding the character Both poems should have a title that can be either taken from the book or an original you create Character Representation To further demonstrate your understanding of this character you will create a representation of him/her to accompany the good copies of your found poetry. This representation will be accessorized with three symbolic objects from the story and one character defining quote found from the novel. Representation Criteria: Full colour character dressed as he/she would be in the storyline Character may be drawn, painted, traced, but not a picture from the internet One quote from the novel that embodies the character featured with page number under the character (it should be clear from reading that single quote who that character is on a deeper level) Three symbolic objects labeled and briefly explained (what does this object represent within the storyline?) These explanations will be directly next to the objects Good Copy Criteria Both poems featured Using 11 x 17 paper Completed character representation in colour (you may make the character half narrator and half Tyler) Fine-lined or in ink (hand- written and not typed) Characters name and the book title featured prominently Under the character representation there should be one defining quote with page number
