Jackson County Intermediate School District Dear Colleagues:

March 27, 2014

I am very pleased to introduce you to a favorite student from my Life Science for Elementary Teachers course (BIOT 303) at Eastern Michigan University this past Winter term 2013. Her name is Ms. Kacy Cameron and she is a wonderful student and real go-getter. Kacy was a superior student at Eastern, graduating with a 3.90 GPA (Summa Cum Laude), who earned our Deans list from Fall 2009 to Winter 2014. She earned a 97.7% in my course for a final grade of A. Every semester in my BIOT 303 course I have my students research and write a one-hour lesson on a life science topic that they then teach to a group of elementary school children. Kacy wrote her lesson on The Mystery of the Tundra (an ecosystem lesson) and presented it to a group of 4th graders at a nearby elementary school in Canton Michigan. She had wonderful activities and props and her group of 4th graders really enjoyed the experience. Kacy is completing her student teaching requirements for The College of Education at Eastern Michigan University after teaching a semester at Village Elementary School in Hartland Michigan in a regular 1st grade room. Kacy will complete her Special Education student teaching requirement at Lyle Torrant Center in Jackson Michigan working in their 11-13 year old Autism Spectrum Disorder room this April 2014. She has also worked as a volunteer at the Autism Collaborate Center on the Eastern Michigan University campus. She has additional experience working with children as a summer camp teachers assistant with autistic children ages 3 through 8. She has substitute taught in all grades in general education and special education. Kacy loves learning about technology and mastering new technology skills. She wants to read and learn as much as she can about tools and strategies to best support her students. I thoroughly enjoyed having Kacy in my class. She is so cheerful, fun, friendly, and caring. I found her to be a compassionate and hard-working young lady, a great team player and someone who deeply cares about the well being of children.

I know she is going to be an outstanding teacher and mentor and look forward to hearing that she has found an excellent teaching position to start her career. Sincerely,

Annie Hannan, Instructor and Coordinator, BIOT 303 Department of Biology Eastern Michigan University Ypsilanti, MI 48197 lhannan@emich.edu 734-355-2755
