Denotation of Kerrang: The masthead of kerrang is in white sans serif tect. The background colour is black the image has shattered effects on it to make it look more attractive to consumers. The writing is in block capitals Connotation of Kerrang The masthead colours are black and white which make it stand out as the white contrasts the black background. The font is bold and grungy which appeals to the readers of the magazine as it attracks people who listen and enjoy rock. The shattered effect might suggest the music and bass of kerrang and how the music is loud enough to smash and shatter objects Denotation of NME: The masthead of NME is bold and again in capital letters the writing is bright red with a black outline it is sans serif font so that its clear to read and stands out to the consumer Connotation of NME: Nme is in sans serif font suggesting that the magazine is youthful. The name New musical express could suggest that readers can hear about new music. The masthead is short and snappy. It also has use of bold colours such as red and white so that it stands out and the colours are informal.

Denotation of Classic fm: The classic fm masthead is printed in simple black capital letters with the word F in FM printed in a bold lowercase red font Connotation of Classic fm:-the classic Fm masthead is in a ferif style suggesting this magazine is more formal and the target audiences is more to the mature nature. Classical music is often associated with older people therefor this is appealing to the audience. The font is sophisticated and simple suggesting the purpose of the logo is not to be in your face and stand out.

Denotation of Uncut: The masthead of uncut is again in sans ferif font style, the font is black large and bold. It covers the entire width of the magazine Connotation of Ucut- The style san ferif has been purposly used for the masthead of uncut as it wants to create an informal style showing it is aimed at a more youthful age group. The size is large and the text is bold and in block capitals to draw attention to the name uncut; as its catchy. The colour black could be used to represent depressing music genre

The masthead of this magazine is in the top corner so it is visible to the consumer when its stacked on the shelves in shops. The colour is red and it stands out against the white background. The shape is original and its a recognisable masthead it also takes up a lot of space on the front cover. The anchorage text of the magazine is the largest font on the front cover therefor it stands out and catches peoples eyes as they pass the magazine. Having her name in a different font underlines that she is the main artist feature of the magazine it also creates a personal feel as the font look slike handwriting. The word Everybody suggests that a lot of people will buy the magazine and it almost pursuades the consumer to be part of the trend.

The cover image is Lana Del Ray. She is the only person on the front this suggests that she may be the main feature for the magazine. She is wearing white which suggests that she is made to look innocent by the media however the blood on her face suggests there is a hidden side to the artist which the magazine may reveal

The other features on the magazine cover are of a smaller size this suggests they are not as important as the main anchorage text. The font used for the text relates to the colour scheme and stands out to the consumer. The colour scheme works well for this front colour as its mostly pink and yellow against a white background this makes the text stand out. Alo Lana Del ray is seen as a very feminine or girly artist and this is represented in the colour scheme. This could also mean that this issue is aimed at girls as the colours are steyotypically associated with the female gender

The masthead for this magazine covers the entire top of this cover therefor it is the only thing that is seen when its on the shelf. The text has been placed behind Miley cyruss head this could also be because when its on the shelf she can be seen by potential consumers however the company name of the magazine can still be seen. The font of the title is quite plain so it doesnt distract from the actual features of the magazine. The font is recognisable and original to the magazine.

The layout of this magazine is very simple. This is effective as it doesnt distract people from the main article or artist. The text in the middle is stands out as the font is larger this again highlights the key article of the magazine

The cover image on this magazine is miley cyrus this suggests that she is the main feature of the magazine. It is very simple and she is wearing all black which highlights her face and makes her stand out this means she is recognisable to the consumers. She is also looking straight into the camera which is use of direct address as it feels personal to the consumer.

There is use of a badge on the left top corner of the magazine which reads Dont miss this is suggesting that the information is exclusive to the magazine and encourages consumers to buy the magazine to find out what is inside.

The colour scheme for this magazine is grown up and feminine showing that the magazine could be more sophisticated than other music magazines found on the shelves. This could suggest that the target audience is female adults or older teenagers. The plain purple background of the front cover allows the white text and the cover image of Miley to stand out whilst also adding a more feminine colour to the magazine.

The logo is very prominent on the front cover. This is because of the use of colour. The red and white outline makes it stand out on the page as its different to the other colours used in the rest of the front cover.

This cover line potential draws more readers than usual as it is also appealing to festival fans as well as regular NME readers. The colour red is used again to highlight this information it is also found along the top of the mgazine near the logo as this is what can be seen on the shelves which draws in consumers

The cover line suggests this is the summer issue of the NME therefor you expect the magazine to have a summery feel in terms of colour scheme and images . The front cover does relate to this as the artist is wearing sunglasses and the colours are bold and red and yellow which suggest the sun and heat.

The prize is fitting with the theme of the issue because someone that is buying this magazine for a festival guide may also want to sleep in a luxury tent. The pirce informs the reader of how much the magazine costs and the barcode allows the shop to scan the magazine when checking out. Without this you would be unable to to purchase the magazine it is small in comparison to everything else on the front cover as it is off less importance compared to the other things on the cover. This image is a medium close up shot. In the background you can see clear blue skies and trees which creates a summery feel. The clothes that the artist is wearing is also associated with summer.

This column contains most of the cover lines on the front of the magazine, the text is black so it can be seen clearly against the background. The colour of the column is a orange fading into yellow which reinforces the idea of the issue being specifically for summer.

This is a feature that may make someone more inclined to read the magazine. The image fits well with the colour scheme Florence's hair colour contrasts with the white logo. And again her completion matches with the white top she is wear which highlights the colour in her hair which she is known for.

The cover line tells the reader that they are looking at a special edition of NME and that they are looking at the second special edition cover out of 10 different covers. It also tells the reader that NME has changed which will make the reader want to buy the magazine to see what has changed.

The slogan is placed under the NME logo, the slogan is simply telling the reader what the initials NME stand for.

This cover line acts as an advertisement to the reader by telling them the other good features inside the magazine to encourage the reader to buy the issue. The white text contrasts the red background so it can be seen easily and stands out. The new NME logo has stuck to the original font however the colour of the logo vary and the white outline has been removed.

The slogan is placed under the logo however the cover image covers up some of this this is because they are the main subject of the magazine and the space they are covering in the front reflects the importants of them in the issue. Extra images can be found on this cover of NME and again I think this is to persuade the reader to buy the magazine so they can see what's inside its almost like a sneek preview tempting the consumer. Sometimes the visual approach can be more successful because readers do not have to think as much. I like the images on the cover as they have been made to fit in with the colour scheme and the coloured images stand out against the black and white background

This issue of NME is crammed with cover lines, suggesting that the magazine is full of features to offer. The benfits of using cover lines means theres more chance of the reader finding something they are interested in. It varies the interest to the magazine and brings in more consumers.

The features of the magazine are the parts which the readers can expect to find in the magazine. They are found in a list on the left hand side they are laid out neatly and in clear columns the audience are then able to read them clearly.

The oasis special title is suggesting that it has some importance to this months edition of the magazine. It is clear and it stands out as it is a different colour to anything else on the page

There is varies stories on the contents page this attracts consumers as there is lots of choice for what to find in the magazine. It also covers a lot of artists therefor there is probably something that they like within the magazine

The lighting is directly from the front making florence look quite pale but a healthy look for her. We have the letters Usa in the background this displays that she has become huge in america and the size of the font represents this.

Thearticle shows me florance on a different level therefor I can relate to her as a human being so the reader can relate as well all go through the same worriees

This is very appropriate heading as it is a line from one of her number one singles. This is relevant as consumers or fans can relate to the title. The font is also interesting to consumers and grabs their attention

Florence is wearing tight black clothing which suggests she is aiming for a sexy look however the colour black has negative connotations such as darkness which contradicts Florence's image this could be showing a rebellious side that the consumer may be interested in

The article uses a drop capital which follows the magazine conventions it also lets the reader know where the start of the text is

The red is the only bright colour on the page which makes it stand ot more it also links with florences hair so the colour scheme works nicely on ths page

The copy is in colums which follows the conventions of a double page spread. It also gives the article a feel that its aimed at older people or teenagers instead of younger children as its a formal layout

The audience can clearly see that the picture of lady gaga has signficance as it takes up half of the double page spread A4 size) the photo has been edited into greyscale which makes it look old and classy at the same time.

The colour scheme for this double page is black and white with red used to create the l in the background of the article.

There doesnt seem to be a title on this double page spread instead there is the name of the artist featured in the article there is fancy lowercase used for the word lady and capitals used for the word GAGA As the uppercase bold writing captures the consumers attention

Drop capital is often used at the start of an article however in this particular case it has been used to start a new paragraph this is effective as it captures the readers attention and encourages them to read on.

This image of lady gaga can be seen as sexual as she is not wearing anything but a necklace this attracts the male audience and it also shows her as a sophisticated confident women which girls would look up or relate too.

There is use of a quote on this double page spread to encourage the reader to carry on reading the article. This works well as there is a black background and white font used in order to catch the consumers attention. However I dont think I will use this techique within my magazine as it takes up too much of the page

The main photo on this double page spread takes up an a4 size this catches the readers attention and it is clear who the article is written about. Lily allen is dressed in relaxed clothing it is also rather a grunge look which is also highlighted in the font to the left of the image this works well as it relates to the style and genre of the magazine.

The text at the bottom of this page is not very appealing to the eye therefor if I was to create this article I would make sure the text stood out a bit more

The quote that has been used to attract the audience is appealing as it sounds interesting and even if the reader is not interested in the artists music the quote makes you want to read more to find out what she has to say.

There is use of a close up shot this is effective as it creates a personal feel with the reader. The image takes up a whole a4 size page this is good because the reader associates the article with the artists. She is also doing a feminine pose which could create interest from a female audience but also male as she appears sexy and sophisticated.

The feature article is effective in terms of its appeal to the audience. Her red lips hair dark eyes and pointy red nials. The colours of these features stand out to the audience and the main image corresponds to the juxtaposition of the breif description of her a Demonic.. Prom queen the use of this interesting image suggests that her music is alternative apposed to main stream.

The double page spread focuses on her appearance suggesting that her beauty is an importants to the audience that reads the magazine

The layout of the double page spread is mostly images and text has been broken up in to columns this is effective as it looks professional and well laid out.

They have used a quote on the right hand side we were never interested in doing things just to please people 'this quote is from the lead singer which suggest that he is of important to the band the quote also relates the article and makes the consumer want to read more

The font used is sans serif there isnt a range of different fonts used in this double page spread. This is not very effective as it means the text doesnt stand out. It makes it looks plain however it does make the images stand out even more to the reader. The images have a range of angles such as a mid shots and medium close up shots. All the images work nicely together . The is a medium close up of Simon o neil the lead singer of the band that feature in this article.

The colour scheme for this double page spread is varied as blue and red is used in the clothing found in the images it catches the readers attention as the rest of the magazine is white background which is conventional
