Terminals Pty Ltd have recently commissioned stage one of a new $110 million bulk fuel storage facility at Pelican Point (Outer Harbour) to meet the growing fuel demands of South Australia. Stage one will include new storage tanks with a combined capacity of up to 85 million litres. Stage 2 will lift this capacity to 135 million litres, which is enough fuel stocks for an estimated 2 weeks worth of fuel supplies for the state. The new facility required a mission critical communication solution that offered much more than just simple talknlisten radio functionality to meet the stated operational needs. This included: The ability to have multiple operational talkgroups communicating at the same time Private call functions (one to one) Various worker safety alarm features such as Duress Alarm Manual Man down When radio exceeds 45 for more than 30 seconds Lone worker alarm functions A countdown timer function to automatically send an alarm if a button is not pressed by the radio operator Full Duplex Telephone interconnect the ability to integrate with the onsite phone system to allow internal (and external) calls to be made and received by the radio units. Inbuilt GPS receiver in each radio for the optional ability to locate staff when operating throughout the facility and when at the wharf Naturally, all radios needed to be intrinsically safe for use around a potentially explosive atmosphere and had to be IP67 (water proof) rated to be capable of operating in all weather conditions. The system chosen to meet these operational demands was a TETRA mission critical trunking solution consisting of DAMM system infrastructure and Sepura terminal units. Whilst the number of radio units on this site is not large, the DAMM system infrastructure provides the equivalent of four repeater channels in a trunked environment and is fully scalable. This means it can meet the immediate operational needs and capacity to support this single site, single carrier system today but has the ability to expand into a multisite, multi carrier solution should additional coverage or capacity be required into the future. The importance of being able to communicate clearly and immediately was a key factor in choosing this solution along with the performance, reliability and variety of worker safety features built into the Sepura Radio units. Another key feature of this solution was the provision of a Tetra modem interface that communicates directly via IP with the many PLC controllers scattered throughout the plant to convey alarm conditions directly to the Sepura radio units via text messaging as well as sending emails to specific personnel in case of an emergency situation. Prior to installation, a site coverage survey was undertaken to ensure that all areas of operation were going to be covered by the new system and now that installation of the system has been completed, radio coverage is covering all areas including the ship unloading area at the wharf at Outer Harbour.

Business News Service Update

Tetracom now has its own Tait portable IP test set, providing us with the ability to IP test the Tait series of portable radios in house. This capability allows us to repair IP rated equipment locally instead of sending it interstate adding to the repair time. We already operate a similar device used to IP test our Motorola range of portable radios and are excited to now include Tait in the mix of testing we are able to perform on site. Tetracom is the only two way radio company in South Australia with the capability to test these IP rated products.

Latest Events for Tetracom Tour Down Under 2014

Tour Down Under first started in 1999 and Tetracom has been there every step of the way. Events like this require strategic planning, forward thinking and technical knowhow as the race is conducted over a vast area. After 16 years Tetracom has become efficient in managing and servicing the communications needs of the race and we look forward to the challenges Tour brings every year. With hundreds of thousands of spectators turning up to support these extraordinary cyclists, 2014 marked another successful year for this well loved South Australian race. The week long event brought 20 teams from all over the world to South Australia to race on the streets of Adelaide, ranging from local areas surrounding the CBD such as Norwood and Unley to the beautiful wine regions of South Australia including Mclaren Vale. The 20 teams raced across a combined distance of 815.5km consisting of 6 stages. This years winner, Simon Gerrans, completed the race in just under 20 hours. Tetracom is responsible for organising all radio and monitoring equipment throughout the whole race utilising 2 aircraft mounted trunked systems, which allow complete and uninterrupted communications to support and operations staff alike. Tetracom use a fleet of over 100 Icom radios that includes the F4163& F4103 Icom portables that operate on the IDAS trunking system. Vehicle mounted radios (F6063& F6023) were used in the Events SA Operational support vehicles, official vehicles and team cycling vehicles. Overall, 2014 was another successful year for Tetracom at the Tour Down Under due to our efficient staff members that monitor this event from pre-build up to the closure of the event. Events SA provided great feedback on the co-operation and efficiency that Tetracom displayed and were thankful for our prompt responses during the race. We look forward to working with the Tour Down Under again in 2015!
