Paulinians adapt to e-learning By Nicole Chiong, Elise Sunga, and Hanna Laurel Aiming to intensify the full integration of technological innovations in its curriculum, St. Paul College, Pasig implemented the Educational Technology Enhancement for Curriculum Harmoni ing !EdTECH" program on four pilot classes this school year. #ooms $ and % of &rades ' and (, the chosen pilot classes for the program, availed of iPads through the school)s partnership *ith companies, +ite*are and Apple. The iPads have ,een serving as an electronic reader for te-t,oo.s and an electronic note,oo., and have garnered generally positive revie*s among the students. After ,eing one of the students part of the trial class, / *ould have the school fully implement the usage of the iPads considering they are useful in most of our su,0ects, shares (th grader &a,ie 1omino. The iPads give students access to more resources other than their ,oo.s, *hich ma.es a ,ig impact in the course of learning the su,0ect matter. /t also ma.es file sharing easier since lecture notes and Po*erPoint presentations are made digitally availa,le. 2n the status of the EdTECH program in the follo*ing years, the team3s high school coordinator 4s. Christine #igor says that they are still currently in the process of evaluation. 5e are planning to have a dialogue *ith the teachers and students regarding the use of iPads. So far, the feed,ac. from the teachers is that it3s easier for them, especially since there are apps that allo* them to easily upload their presentations for easy access of the students. This leaves them more time to discuss and do more activities in the classroom as there is no need for time to copy notes. 6or the students, on the other hand, it is also easier as they are a,le to pass their re7uirements on time ,ecause most of the activities are done online, says 4s. #igor. /f all goes *ell, the plan is to have t*o sections per year level use the iPads. Surveys a,out the school)s possi,le implementation of e:learning *ere distri,uted last school year to parents and the ,atch *ith the most positive respondents served as ,asis for determining the pilot classes. The school informed the parents from the aforementioned pilot classes during the summer ,efore the school year started. The EdTECH team is led ,y 4r. PAASCU grants HS reaccreditation By Gyra Mallari and Sofia Ruiz +ess than a month after their visit, the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and ;niversities !PAASC;" released early its decision on the reaccreditation of the High School 1epartment. The HS 1epartment *ill maintain its top:level accreditation status as it *as reaccredited for its current level < status for another ne-t five years. As part of the accreditation rene*al process, a delegate from PAASC; *as sent to the campus last 2cto,er %< and %=, %9$<. According to Curriculum 1evelopment Head 4rs. /rene >illanueva, they evaluated the institution ,ased on eight criterions? instruction, administration, faculty, physical plan, school and community, student services, the la,oratories and the li,rary. The delegate from PAASC; also conducted various o,servations and intervie*s *ith the administration, teachers, students, selected parents, and other employees. A self:survey team *as organi ed consisting of employees of the institution *ith the Assistant Principal for Academics 4r. #onald Santos and 4rs. >illanueva as the team3s leaders. groups in order to evaluate each criterion that the PAASC; evaluated. The reports of the self:survey team *ere su,mitted to PAASC; ,eforehand and *ere used as a guide ,y the delegation in their formal visit. The HS department made preparations as early as 4ay for the much anticipated PAASC; visit. The department also conducted a moc. accreditation early in 2cto,er *ith former administrator 4rs. 1e,,ie &rafil providing feed,ac.. The faculty prepared various e-hi,its on academics, &/6T, SCT, &uidance, and other areas as documented proof of claims made in their reports. /n an intervie*, 4r. Santos applauded the faculty for their efforts in handling the preparations for PAASC; *hile also ad0usting to the ne* grading system. @ust last year, the department under*ent another accreditation process ,y the 5estern Association of Schools and Colleges !5ASC", an international accrediting agency. Research Team embarks on mission launches Pro!ect "ala By Sofia Ruiz Carrying out the Paulinian *ay of living out the &ospel and ,eing Christ for others, St. Paul College, Pasig3s #esearch Team led ,y 1r. &enevieve 8alance:Eupang, Ph1 pioneered a mission for the development of its adopted Aeta community in &ala, Fam,ales. 1u,,ed as Pro0ect &ala, the #esearch Team conducted a community ,ased mapping that documented the assets, strengths, /ndigenous Eno*ledge Systems and Practices !/ESP", dreams, threats, and concerns of the Aetas

in the resettlement sites. /t also served as an evaluation of the impact of the immersion program of the school from the Aetas3 perspective. The researchers made use of the see:0udge:act frame*or. and a photo voice pro0ect to encourage dialogue and interaction among the Aetas. The research is titled Promoting Sustaina,le /ndigenous Communities through Photovoice? The Case of Philippine Aetas. 8ased on their findings, the team came to nine main areas of concern namely livelihood, education, environment and ecology, shelter, education, health care, cultural heritage preservation, infrastructure, transportation and spirituality. A three:year development plan is ,eing formulated for the e-ecution of this pro0ect in partnership *ith the community in &ala. This school year, the goal of the pro0ect is to address the immediate concerns of the community. 5ater systems, the farm to mar.et road, inset *al.*ays, street lights, and community comfort rooms are to ,e improved and innovated. To achieve this, special fundraising activities are ,eing proposed ,y the core team. Pro0ect &ala is an am,itious and selfless initiative of the St. Paul community that shall ,e not only a yearlong investment ,ut a long term service in order to assure the ,est possi,le living conditions for the community in &ala. #AR$AN CA#P-$N SPCP sends more to %olanda &ictims By Isa el !an"Palanca The Sisters of St. Paul of Chartes Gational #is. and 1isaster 4anagement !SPCG#14" have opened St. Paul College Pasig !SPCP" as the +u on drop point for donations from St. Paul schools and other ,enefactors in response to the yearly fre7uenting of typhoons in the Philippines. The most recent operation, *hich is in response to Typhoon Colanda, involved five deliveries of a total of over $999 ,ags and ,o-es to PerpetualSuccour Hospital in Ce,u that *ill ,e distri,uted to places such as /loilo, Taclo,an, and Ce,u. Since the devastation of the Typhoon 2ndoy in %99(, SPCP has ,een accepting donations *hether in:.ind or cash from volunteers. The goods offered ,y the students and the staff during various Eucharistic cele,rations and recollections are stored for initial responses to such calamities. Some students and mem,ers of the Parent Homeroom Colla,oration Team !PHCT" assist in the pac.ing these donations, usually *hen classes have ,een

suspended due to the rain. These goods are then dispatched to parishes or hospitals that have connected *ith the local church in the affected region and are distri,uted to the communities in need. Cash goods are often used as operational e-penses, including shipping andHor travel fees. The program opened *ith the performance of last year3s finalist, T1T. 2ther guest performances included t*o ,ands formed ,y Paulinian graduates, 8urr Coll and The Einder 6riends. Chart:topping 2P4 ,and 4oonstarMM also graced the event, playing their hit songs !ore$e and Migraine. +ast year, the 4AC:/ and C64 organi ed Cinco as a competition for ,ands that consisted of four guitarists and a vocalist. Cinco *as supposedly the se7uel of the guitar 7uartet competition, Nuatro, held t*o years ago. This year, the 4AC:/ seniors shoo. things up ,y allo*ing the use of any acoustic instruments as long as the ,and *as composed of four instrumentalists and one vocalistR hence, the competition3s evolution into a general acoustic ,attle of the ,ands. Another modification introduced in the competition *as the creation of @unior and Senior divisions. Each year level had a finalist handpic.ed ,y the production team from an earlier elimination round. The Paulinian 0ournalists ,agged numerous a*ards in ,oth English and 6ilipino categories. /n the field of English, Senior Gicole Chiong received third place in the ne*s *riting category. Senior Celina Pa,lo placed for ,ron e in copyreading and headlining *hile @oanna #eyes, also a senior, placed seventh in feature *riting. 6or editorial *riting, Pa,lo and Chiong garnered the second and fifth places respectively *hile for sports, @0unior Teresa Gaval claimed first place and #eyes placed seventh. 8esting other participants, Pa,lo *as also a*arded as the 2verall /ndividual Highest Pointer for the competition. /n the field of 6ilipino, Senior @oanne de +eon and @unior Elise Sunga garnered the first and third places respectively in the ne*s *riting category. Team &ryffinra*rs composed of Seniors Colleen 1e +una and Celina 1e +una garnered second place, *hile Team 8arium Co,alt Gitrogen composed of Seniors Gicole Chiong and Cassandra 1eluria finished in third. All paired teams *ere given an article to present to a panel of 0udges to ,e done in the simplest, most effective, and most creative *ay possi,le. These presentations *ere also accompanied ,y visual aids designed ,y the students. This year)s competition *as participated in ,y over L9 teams composed of senior students from different high schools around 4etro 4anila. The competition)s elimination round *as concluded last August $9, %9$<, *here $K teams *ere chosen to compete for the finals.
