February 24, 2014 Clara Swoboda Kappa Omicron Nu 319 N.

Main Maryville, MO 64468 Dear Clara Swoboda: As Family and Consumer Science majors, Kappa Omicron Nu members are all pursuing careers that will better the lives of others. What better way to improve lives than to assist in raising money to find a cure for cancer? Relay for Life is a very successful event that currently has approximately 3.5 million participants in the U.S. alone. This fall, Kappa Omicron Nu can be a part of this great number. Relay for Life is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and has now spread to 20 other countries. Nodaway County will hold its Relay for Life event on September 11, 2014 and would love to get more involvement from its Bearcat family. To participate, your organization will need to come up with a team of 12 to 15 members and a team captain. The team captain is generally in charge of creating a walking schedule so that that someone is walking at all times during the event and making sure each members fee is paid. The cost is approximately $10-$15 per person on the team. This fee can be paid by the individuals, the organization, or a local business sponsor. Each member will be given a Relay for Life T-shirt and the event will start at 6:00 PM at Beal Park and end at 6:00 AM on September 12. Businesses who donate to this cause can report their donations as being tax exempt since the American Cancer Society is a 501(C)3 organization. The American Cancer Society is responsible for much of the research done on cancer. It has discovered how to better the lives of those who suffer from the disease though better therapies and lifestyle changes. Much of this research may be used in your members future careers of serving people. With the help of those who participate in Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society will continue to find lifeimproving solutions and hopefully, someday, a cure.

This event fee and time commitment is a small price to pay for the potential to lengthen or save the lives of millions. Members will need to collect donations from businesses and/or individuals. Some helpful tips for raising donations are: Make a list of all potential donors and write each one a letter or send an email Ask one person per day and remind them that their donation is tax deductible Walk in honor of someone who has battled or is battling cancer Talk about this event whenever possible and include a personal story if your walking in honor of someone Fundraise as a team by offering a service that people would already pay for

The American Cancer Society and Relay for Life encourage you to invest your time and money to this very important event. It would not be successful without the participation of organizations such as Kappa Omicron Nu. It is important to sign up your team and start collecting donations right away to make the most of this event and help the many people suffering from cancer today and those who may be diagnosed with it tomorrow. Just mail in the attached form with the names of your participants and the team fee to get signed up and start helping people today.
