Introduction

Students in a college community have a plethora of op-

portunities at their fingertips. Between clubs, sports, in-
ternships, college events and sorority/fraternity groups,
students can be involved in almost anything and every-
thing. It has become a new standard to be well-rounded
expressing your interest and involvement in a variety of
outlets. But when is being a well round high achieving in-
dividual just too much and when do the positive effects of
this active life style turn to have negative effects?

Well-Rounded Student
We define veII rounded, as a sludenl vho ar-
ticipates in a variety of extracurricular activities,
is a camus Ieader or vorks during lhe schooI
year.
Methods
Crealed a comrehensive Survey oIIing sludenl in-
volvement in the categories listed above
The survey Iink vas adminislered lhrough googIe
and required a University student login allowing us to
control our sample
The survey vas comIeled by a lolaI of 49 sludenls
MuIlivariale regression melhods vere used lo ana-
lyze the data collected.
Although we found a negative correlation
between extracurricular participation and
GPA there are many benefits to being a well-
rounded student not captured by GPA.
Discussion
MuIlivariale regression lechniques exIained 4O/ of
varialion in GIA
HoIding aII olher faclors equaI, LxlracurricuIar has lhe
Iargesl effecl on GIA. Increasing LxlracurricuIar aclivily
by one hour causes GIA lo decrease by .O18
Since GIA is measured on a 4.OO scaIe, a change of .O18
is a fairly significant difference.
HoIding aII olher faclors equaI, increasing sorls by
one hour causes GIA lo increase by .O12
We beIieve sorls has a osilive effecl due lo lhe GIA
requirement for varsity players and the team helps orga-
nize studying
Working has a negalive effecl, increasing vork by one
hour decreases GIA by .OO3. This effecl is much Iess sig-
nificant.
None of our results were statistically significant, a
larger sample pool, and a more random sample may lead
to stronger conclusions.
