Thomas S Some people are so old that they lived in the days before everyone had television!

Isaac You may even know some of these people a grandparent, a teacher, a neighbour or a mummy in the museum. Morris Next time you meet them ask, What did you do before you had a television? Ryan Youll find that they usually say, We sat around the fire and talked. Landon Dont say anything about them painting the walls of their caves. They probably arent that old. Laurence They may even say, We told stories. People have told stories since ancient times. They told stories to try to explain the world around them. Thomas S These stories are then passed on, repeated or changed over time. Isaac In time, humans learned to write and someone wrote these stories down so that people of the future could read them. Morris We are the people of that future. Caitlin They never guessed that we would be able to read their stories 3000 years after they wrote them.. But theyll be thrilled at the thought Landon In year 3, we have been reading such stories. They are called Myths and Legends. Laurence A myth is a traditional story of gods and heroes which tries to explain why people or things are like they are. Thomas S A legend is a story based on truth but with bits added. Isaac We are writing our own myths and legends. Morris We took our heroes through deep mountains, dark mirror lakes and swampy flat grounds. (Add sound effects) Ryan Not forgetting the rocky caves, golden streams, wild woods and other wonderful settings. (Add sound effects) Landon Our characters used magical weapons and fought mythical creatures. Laurence We read a lot of stories. A few examples are: ______ Alyssa: We will now tell you the story of one of these legends, King Arthur and the Enchanted Sword. It is about a young man called Arthur who later became the king of Britain. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Tarana: King Uther loved i-graine of Cornwall but he couldnt marry her. Rex : I love thee i-graine of Cornwall Trevor: Merlin the magician said he would help Ryan Merlin Give me your first born son and I will grant your wish Rex: huh, ok, if I have to Sarah: Uther and i-graine were married and they had a baby son. They named him Arthur (goo goo daddy)

Tanya: Ahhh, hes so cute! Caitlin: Merlin took Arthur and gave him to Sir Ector and his family to look after. Ryan takes baby from Rex to Thomas R (Merlin takes the baby from Uther and passes it to Sir Ector) Summer: Goo goo new daddy Tarana: Many years later King Uther fell ill and died. Trevor: The other lords of the land fought as to who would become king. Thomas R, Moksh, Summer 3 lords (No, I want to be king repeat) x 3 Sarah: A magical stone suddenly appeared. Ryan Whoever pulls this sword from this stone is the true born king of all Britain. Tarana: Sir Ector (Thomas R) Arthur (Summer) and his step-brother Sir Kay (Moksh) went along. Thomas R Sir Ector: Step aside weaklings. I shall pull the sword and be crowned king.(showing muscles) (Struggles to pull out sword) Moksh (sir Kay): Hah! What a wimp. My turn. Get the crown ready (Struggles to pull out sword) Thomas R Sir Ector: You couldnt even pull a sword out of a scone! Summer (Arthur): Scones ... hmmmm. Can I have a try? Sir Kay and Sir Ector: You? (laughing) Dont make me laugh. (laughing) Youre just a boy! (Fall on the floor laughing) Summer: Have you finished laughing yet? (Arthur looking at his watch) Sir Kay and Sir Ector: No, not yet. (More laughing) (Summer pulls the sword from the stone) Trevor: Sir Kay was amazed at what his brother had done. Sarah: Word soon spread that Arthur had pulled the sword from the stone. He got the sword Mexican wave Ryan: Arthur is the true born King of all Britain. ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Pratap In class, we have read stories of brave and strong heroes who help other people.

Mihir We read about Gods and Goddesses so cruel and vile. Pratap And we read about blood-drinking monsters and magical creatures of the sky, sea and land. Some are kind and some are evil. MHYTHTICAL CREATURES PRESENTATION. ALL CHILDREN TO SHOW THEIR MYTHICAL CREATURES TO AUDIENCE The Midas Touch Rex: Once there was a king who had everything in life. But he was not satisfied. Jin: I wish that everything I touch will turn to gold! Isaac: An interesting choice. Are you SURE that's what you want? Jin: Oh yes, gold makes me very happy! You can never have enough gold! Isaac: Very well - starting tomorrow morning everything you touch will turn into gold. And I do mean everything! Jun Min: Midas could not wait to try out his new power. He got up at dawn, ran around the house and began touching everything. (Touches a _______) Jin: It works! IT WORKS!! Natalie: Oh no! What have you done now? CHORUS: He touched the tables He touched the chairs He grabbed the curtains Without a care The doors were gold The bed was too The sink and bath And even the loo! Midass finger Waved about Everythings gold Hear him shout!

Jin: I feel hungry after all this work. Time for breakfast (Claps hands) Servant! Fetch my breakfast. Natalie: Whats wrong dear? Jin: Oh well, Im not really that hungry. I think Ill go for a walk HEART OF GOLD MUSIC AND VIDEO OF KING WALKING AROUND Picking up a flower in the playground. Others picking them too but ok Eating some fruit. All turns gold King very sad Putting on glasses to read. Bumps into things. Holding up white boards in class. Kings is Gold. Children ready to eat chocolate. Kings becomes gold (use a block of butter)

Natalie: What is the matter dear I thought you liked having a golden touch. Jin: (CRYING) Having all this gold is not as much fun as I thought. Tanya: Let me give you a HUG to cheer you up. Natalie: NO! DONT! STAY AWAY FROM YOUR FATHER! Jun Min: He tried to stop her, but it was too late. He accidentally touched her. Instantly, in front of him, was a gold statue that before had been his precious daughter. Midas and his wife cried and cried. CHORUS Poor old Midas In despair His daughter is golden From feet to hair What can he do? What can he say? Are the gods listening? Midas better pray!

HOLDING HIS ARMS UP TOWARDS THE GODS Jin Please save me from this golden curse. Rex: According to legend, Di-on-y-sus allowed King Midas to reverse the curse and was able to turn his daughter and all his possessions back to their original state. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
