NOTES

TRADITIONAL WORSHIP

Whats in a name? You have undoubtedly heard that phrase before. Perhaps it was in an English Lit class when you were studying Romeo and Juliet. The Old Testament Hebrew word for name is shem, which is also the name of one of Noahs sons, from which we get the Shemites, and in todays language, the Semites. From the beginning, Gods people were associated with The NAME, as God was sometimes known. At the burning bush, Moses asked God, Who should I say sent me? What is your name? The name and its meaning express the character of the one bearing that name. Gods name was so holy it was not pronounced aloud, except by the high priest, one day a year, on Yom Kippur. No one but the high priest ever heard it, or knew how it was pronounced. WIth this background, we look today at the powerful name of God. The day is coming when every knee will bow at the name of Jesus, and every tongue confess that He is Lord to the glory of God the Father. We begin worship today with words of praise to our God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for we have gathered together in the name of Jesus our risen Lord and Savior. - Dr. Dan Sharp

St. Paul always greeted with the words, The peace of God be with you. This is an appropriate way to greet fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and so we say, The peace of the Lord be with you and respond, And also with you. We then pass this greeting of peace to one another. At the passing of the peace we should earnestly desire Gods peace upon each person we greet.
