DEVOTION
Hannah had a dream. She wanted to have a baby. Unfortunately her body wasnt able to have one. Not only that, but the people around her criticized her for her dream. Monday, April 7 Read 1 Samuel 1:1-8 Every year El!anahs family would &o to Shiloh as an act of worship. 'he ar! was at Shiloh. (hen the family arrived there they would offer a meat sacrifice out of devotion to )od. El!anah felt so bad for Hannah was not able to have a child that he &ave her a double portion of the sacrifice. *enninah was much less charitable. She was described as a rival to Hannah+ another way to translate the word is enemy or adversary. ,ur heart &oes out to Hannah. -or women in this a&e to be barren was a severe hardship. Not only that, she had to endure the taunts of *enninah. .ife was not treatin& Hannah fairly. Prayer: Life is not fair at times. Hannahs situation is an example of this. Help me, O Lord, have

Hannah didnt &ive in. She spo!e the truth to Eli. She had been spea!in& out of her &reat anxiety and vexation. She was not drun! at all. 2nstead she was passionate about her desire to have a child. 'his is the second time in the story that Hannah had been criticized. 1ut despite the criticism Hannah remained firm in what she wanted. Prayer: %ts remar(a!le, Lord, that Hannah stayed firm despite !ein" critici)ed !y such a po erful man. *he remained true to her vision. Help me stay true to the vision that you have for me. #hursday, April +, Read 1 Samuel 1:19-20 Hannahs dream came true" She went home to El!anah and the two were able to conceive a son. #uesday, April $ Read 1 Samuel 1:9-11 'hese three verses reveal the heart of Hannahs faith. Hannah presented herself before the .ord and vowed that if she would have a son she would present him to )od as a Nazirite. Have we ever made a vow to )od a promise that if somethin& happened that we would do somethin&/ 0ows are usually done in a place of desperation. (hen we ma!e a vow it seems that we have nowhere else to turn but )od. Nothin& else seems to be wor!in&. 'his is the place that Hannah was. She loo!ed at her body as a failin& her. She had nowhere else to turn, but to )od. Prayer: % pray for people ho are in such a desperate situation. Help them follo the example of Hannah and turn to you. &ednesday, April ' Read 1 Samuel 1:12-18 Eli mista!enly thou&ht that Hannah was drun! and chastised her. 1ut Hannah stood her &round. 2t would have been easy for her to accede to Elis mista!e. Eli was a man and a priest3 Hannah was a woman and one who wasnt able to have a child. 'he power difference between the two was vast.

Prayer: Hannah stayed faithful to her dream and shared a vision of the orld. &ithout her persistence e ouldnt !e a are of this !eautiful story. May % learn from her example.
