Zamboanga Peninsula

Zamboanga Peninsula is a peninsula and an administrative region in thePhilippines, designated


as Region IX. The region consists of three provinces, namely: Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur,
and Zamboanga Sibugay, its component cities of Dipolog, Dapitan, Pagadian, and Isabela and the highly
urbanized city ofZamboanga. The region was previously known as Western Mindanao before the
enactment of Executive Order No. 36 on September 19, 2001.

Egmidio Alvarez Enriquez was born in Zamboanga City. A fictionist and playwright, he holds an MA
degree in Creative Writing from the State University of Iowa. His first published novel The Devil Flower-
reprinted by the DLSU Press in 1999- earned for him the John Simmon Guggenheim Fellowship in New
York. His other works include his three-act plays in Mindanao, Kudarat and Urduja and his latest novels
