The life of Jo Bhaer is a
very exciting one. She has
a house full of about a
dozen boys, and a couple
girls. This is a story about
their escapades and
adventures. You meet
several children and
teenagers, and learn all
about them. From running
away and getting lost to
the story of two friends
who would do anything
for each other, this book
brings laughter and tears.

Book Reviews
One of the main conflicts is
man vs. himself. This would
be Dan vs. Dan. Dan
struggles with feelings of
self-worth, and often feels
he doesnt measure up to
the other boys.
Another conflict is man vs.
man. An example of this is
Nat vs. the other boys. Nat is
accused of taking some
money from fellow scholar,
and almost the whole school
believes him guilty, even
though Nat protests his
innocence. Nat is eventually
proven innocent.

and
Examples
Some of the main
characters are Nat, Dan,
and Mrs. Bhaer.

Nat comes to Plumfield at
the beginning of the
book. He is quiet, shy, and
his worst quality is lying.
He is compassionate, and
plays the violin very well.

Dan is accepted at
Plumfield after being
suggested by Nat. He is
rebellious at first, but
after being sent away, he
later comes back and
shows a real change. He is
quiet, and does well with
little kids.
Mrs. Bhaer loves all her
little men more than
anything else, except
maybe writing. She is the
boys closest confidant.
She is the one to
encourage rowdiness, and
sometimes takes part in
their rough actions.

Characters
There is no direct theme, seeing
how this is a book of little stories.
One of the stories deals with Dan
and Nat. In this story, Nat is
accused of taking some money.
Dan takes the blame for this, even
though both of them are innocent.
The theme is that true friends will
do anything for each other, even
when it means taking
consequences for something you
may not have done.
Theme
My favorite part is when
Daisy, the only girl at the
school at the time, is
rejected by the boys when
she wants to take part in
their rowdiness. When
Aunt Jo realizes that
Daisys passion is cooking,
she goes out and buys a
little kitchen for her. The
difference between this
little kitchen, and other
childrens kitchens, is that
this one really works.
Daisy is able to actually
produce real food that can
be eaten.
