ANALYSIS OF PICTURE BOOK

Book Title : Unity Is Strength
Writer : Sheik Hassan Seylan Abad
Illustrator : WanZs
Reading Level: 6 to 9 years old

Characteristics of the book:-

1. Cover
~ The book cover has an interesting story. For children who have
trouble in understanding English, they might consider thought that the
drawing is about a man who likes to keep the birds. However, the front
page of the book still describes the content of the book's title.

2. Illustration
~ The illustration on the front page could attract students as artists use
a variety of colors as an attraction to children. However, the paintings
are quite general for not showing the same characteristics with the title
of the book. Overall, the picture is quite interesting.

3. Content of the book
~ The story line is written clearly and orderly. This can help children to
understand more about the story. The writer puts variable texts to
make it more interesting so children by following the content of the
story.

4. Message
~ The book is written well and simple where children could easily
understand about it. The messages presented are also relevant to the
story as an example, we must work together to strengthen the unity of
the same as the title of the book.

5. Characters
~ The writer chooses to have human and non-human characters in this
book. Human; the man, who wants to catch the bird and try to sell it
and non-human; a flock of birds tried to escape from the man. The
author is trying to convey that the two characters are about a reality of
life around us.

6. Point of quest / journey
~ All the characters are well written to show their characteristics. The
man, catches a flock of birds to get some money on it; while there is a
flock of birds survive to escape from him. Finally the birds succeed
because they work together even they are smaller than the man. We
think that the point is there and children would love to follow the efforts
of the birds.

7. Emotional bonding
~ We believe that the story brings challenge in childrens emotion. This
is because, they would feel anxiety and uneasy to the man action on
catching the birds. Children would feel angry to the man. The birds
would get sympathy from children because of their size which is small
and they would think how the birds could fight with a big man.
Nevertheless, at the ending children would feel happy because the
man could not have the birds.

8. Plot
~ The plot can be say as logical. First, the man caught the birds with a
net. Then, the birds tried to escape but at first they failed. Them they
tried over again until they success to do so. The man lost the birds but
the birds flew happily. Children loves happy ending and there it is, the
story ends well and birds fly in the sky.

9. Theme
~ The theme is easy and simple. It is about unity and can be happen if
we are work together without manner about sizes or looks.

10. Style and Language
~ The style and the language are appropriate for children. The writer
uses words that can be understand by children.
