Background
We are 11
th
graders that attend to Doulos Discovery School. We are trying to start growing
microgreens bye ourselves. Wanting to do something different. Microgreens are a tiny
form of young edible greens produced from vegetable, herbs or others plants. They range
in size from 1 and a half inches long. Bebeficts that microgreens can give us are that
microgreens are very nutrients, and have more nutrients than te bigger plants.
Microgreens are very easy to grow, it doesnt need aot of care just water them. Thats
what they need of your attention. When you plant them you just need the materials like
seeds, substrate, a tray and fertilizer. Microgreens are really fast growers. In our
experiment we use 2 types of seeds radish and beets. The radish from 6-10 days to grow
the beets take a little longer it takes to 18 days. For microgreen to grown it needs a very
humid place no a sunny , and make the substrate moist, never leave then dry.
Microgreens would be sold to chefs to be used on different plates on the restaurants,
and tourist places.Microgreen originated from the United States about the middle of the
90s starting in the South part of California. Microgreens grow as I said in U.S., Jamaica is
producing a lot, and Europe. But we want to produced in D.R., as a company that had
started . Microgreens to export them from one country to another cause a high danger of
not being fresh and it cost to import them, thats why we want them to be grown here.
We had made a little house for them to be grown.
Our group purpose is to use the 3 types of screen to measure how much sun get into the
plants. We will be determining how much sun gets into the seeds bye measuring the

biomass and how tall the microgreens are. One of the fabrics was that I brought it from a
invernadero . The other one is bough on the ferreteria and the holds are a little bigger.
The last one is a bug screen .

12) Stapler
13) Fine Gage Metal Fence (25x100)
14) Measuring Cylinder
Procedure:
1) Our trays are made with plastic bags and bugsreen on the bottom.
2) Took some wood fine that looks like a sticks, and cut then in 13 inches
tall.
3) Them take the3 different types of fabric and cut 100cm around and 13
inches high.
4) Take your fabrics and staple them on the tray.(try to make in stretch)
5) Get your substrate 100mL coco fiber and 500mL rough coco fiber and
put them together on a container.
6) Put your substrate on the trays
7) Them take 25g of seed (weight the seeds)
8) Them spread them on the substrate pushing to the substrate
9) Water the seeds and them wait 1 day to put it on our greenhouse
