The novel addresses not only the corruption of the revolution by its leaders, but also the ways

wickedness,
indifference, ignorance, greed, and myopia corrupt the revolution. It portrays corrupt leadership as the flaw in
revolution, rather than the act of revolution itself. It also shows how potential ignorance and indifference to
problems within a revolution could allow horrors to happen if a smooth transition to a people's government is
not achieved..It is interesting to know that though the book was first published in 1945 and mainly attacked the
Stalinism prevailing in then Russia, but it finds enough relevance in contemporary world. It emphasizes on the
often quoted Lord Actons saying Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Animal Farm is a novel written by George orwell . Old Major, the old boar on the Manor Farm, calls the animals on the
farm together for a meeting, in which he refers to humans as parasites and teaches the animals a revolutionary song
called 'Beasts of England'. When Major dies, two young pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, assume command and consider
it a duty to prepare animals to defend them against humans. The animals revolt and drive the irresponsible Mr
Jones from the farm, and rename it "Animal Farm".
Snowball teaches the animals reading and writing while Napoleon educates young puppies animalism . the farm runs
smoothly.
They adopt Seven Commandments of Animalism --:
1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
3. No animal shall wear clothes.
4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
5. No animal shall drink alcohol.
6. No animal shall kill any other animal.
7. All animals are equal.
When Snowball announces his plans to build a windmill, Napoleon has his dogs chase Snowball away and
subsequently declares himself leader of Animal Farm. Napoleon changes the structure of the farm, replacing meetings
with a committee of pigs who will run the farm and claims credit for the windmill idea. The animals work harder with the
promise of easier lives with the windmill. When the animals find the windmill collapsed after a violent storm, Napoleon
and Squealer convince the animals that Snowball is trying to delay their project. and with his dogs, he kill hens which
he accuses of his old rival . Napoleon adopts the lifestyle of a man breaching many of the seven commandments . Mr
Frederick, one of the neighbouring farmers, attacks the farm. Though the animals win the battle, with boxer as a
casualty.
Napoleon sends for a van to take Boxer to the veterinary surgeon, explaining that better care can be given there. But
the Benjamin notices that the van belongs to a knacker, Years pass, and the pigs start to resemble humans, as they
walk upright, and wear clothes. Pigs changed one of the commandments with - "All animals are equal, but some
animals are more equal than others". Napoleon renames the farm "The Manor Farm". Other animals realized they can
no longer distuinguish between the two pigs to humans
