DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP SEGMENT (DIS) 2013
The year 2013 marked the completion of yet another successful summer internship
process at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). The summer internship
segment is called Development Internship Segment (DIS), as it is designed to
primarily strengthen IRMA participants' exposure to grass root rural development
interventions as well as atypical challenges of primary producer / other socially
oriented organizations. They are expected to blend their understanding of theory of
rural development interventions and managerial skills for achievement of goals of the
targeted interventions. The Development Internship Segment is a seven-week
module, which marks the beginning of the second year in the PRM curriculum.
Under the guidance of faculty and the host organization, participants are expected to
engage in activities such as organising and mobilising the community for collective
action; performing functional management tasks in collective enterprises,
undertaking socially beneficial assignments in other enterprises or such other tasks
as assigned by the host organization. The DIS is scheduled during June-July every
year, after completion of 3 classroom terms and one fieldwork segment.

This year, the lions share of the projects was grabbed by the livelihood sector which
recruited 27% of the batch, followed by agriculture which absorbed 19% of the batch.
Dairy and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) accounted for 10%
absorption each. Energy, finance and health sectors absorbed about 9%, 7% and
6% of the batch respectively.
A total of 254 internship offers were floated by 89 organizations. The number of
projects floated by organizations was 141. The total number of offers finally accepted
was 118 by 56 participating recruiters.

The highest CTC for the duration of internship was INR 86,000, the average CTC
being INR 30,000 approximately. During Development Internship Segment, IRMA
invites organizations engaged in rural interventions only as opposed to Management
Traineeship Segment (Nov 4 Dec 24, 2013) where larger number of organizations
are invited and scope of training is on exposure to managerial challenges.
We are extremely grateful to our recruiters who have overwhelmed us with their
relentless support and co-operation. IRMA will continue to support rural enterprises
in their endeavours by providing top-notch managerial talent. We value our
relationship with the recruiters and look forward to fruitful engagements in the future.
