Discover Nam Du island

Thursday, March 21, 2013 - 18:24:59

(VOVworld)-Located 90 km west of Rach Gia city in Kien Giang province, Nam Du island has
become an attractive destination for tourists. Discovery Vietnam today will take you on a tour of
the island, known as Vietnams second Ha Long bay.

Nam Du is also known as "Cu Tron", the biggest island in Hon Lon or Big Island archipelago.
There is only one boat per day from Rach Gia to Nam Du. After spending five hours on the boat,
tourists will step foot on a primitive island. Our first stop is Hon Lon, the largest island of the
archipelago. A 2.5 km asphalted road will take you to a mountain 300 m above sea level where a
splendid panorama awaits. From there, you can see Hon Lon (Big island) surrounded by 21 islets
and, for some, it is like a miniature of Ha Long Bay. From the peak of the island, you can see An
Son town with about 300 small houses at the foot of the mountain. Tran Thi Mai Anh, a tourist
from Ho Chi Minh City, says: Nam Du island still maintains its wild beauty. The scenery is
beautiful and the atmosphere is calm. Local islanders are simple and friendly.
After Hon Lon, tourists continue their trip to other islands, which inspire them with beautiful
beaches and rocky cliffs with picturesque scenery. Visitors to Nam Du island often spend the night
on Ngang or Mau island where many hotels and restaurants are available. Mau island is about 200
hectares in area and has a small fishing village with a hundred households. Mau island is famous
for beautiful beaches lined with coconut trees.

Nam Du is rather busy at night with boats of all sizes dotting the sea fishing for squid. Visitors to
Nam Du have a chance to sample delicious fresh seafood. Hoang Vu Linh, a tourist from Hanoi,
says: "I came with my family. At first I was a little bit hesitant but my friends persuaded me to go
despite the poor infrastructure on the island. I made the right decision. The food is delicious, the
air is fresh and the atmosphere is peaceful. Each island has groves of coconut trees and
magnificent cliffs. We really want to return".
From a wild archipelago, Nam Du has become a popular tourist destination. Thai Nguyen Viet,
Vice President of An Son Commune, says: Visitors to Nam Du are interested in bathing, fishing,
and local seafood. The infrastructure on Nam Du remains poor. Accommodation and transport is
limited. We are now paying special attention to developing tourism on the island. We have
encouraged local people and domestic and foreign investors to invest in hotels, restaurants, and
tourist services.
Certainly, the infrastructure on the island is still modest, but if you go, you will not regret it. The
natural beauty and warm-hearted people will welcome you.
