REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS IN THE FUTURE

color!ul cultural heritage&

"unha Rahin )oon* and (+hodo ,al ,i -ateen*& At the stroe o! . A" a!ter the /resident
arrives along with the +hie! 0uest in a grand cavalry$ the parade begins with the roll o! tans$
#issiles$ ar#ored carriers$ and the in!antry and so on& A!ter the #ilitary$ it is the turn o! para
#ilitary !orces such as the /olice$ -12 and +R/2& 'hen co#es the wonder!ul display o!
'ableaus depicting 3ndia%s contrasting cultures !ro# the east to the west and north to the south$
as well as the north east&
'he school children !ollow ne4t in a grand array o! beauti!ul uni!or#s per!or#ing dances
and drills in !ront o! an enthralled audience on Ra5path& 2inally$ to cap the celebrations$ 3ndian
Air !orce Jets screa# past in a da66ling display on the sies reassuring the people that they are
indeed well protected by the country%s ar#ed !orces&
'i#es are changing and so are the Nation%s priorities and approach& 'he present ti#es
as well as the !uture are seeing #ultiple challenges on the international !ront with security
challenges along the borders and coastline$ as well as do#estic uprising o! the stateless actors&
3n addition$ we have the global war#ing pheno#ena$ which$ i! le!t unattended$ would be
disastrous& 'he need to educate$ re#ove poverty and i#prove healthcare have been country%s
proble#s that have re#ained since our independence si4ty years bac& 'here is a gradual
depletion o! country%s resources such as drining water$ #inerals$ !orests$ ani#al habitat$ rivers
and o! course$ asy##etrical growth o! cities at the e4pense o! the country side&
3n the !uture$ Republic Day celebrations #ust de!initely #irror the direction the country
will adopt$ which$ is to !ore#ost$ educate its citi6ens on conservation o! !ood$ water$ energy$
!orests$ etc& 0reen houses$ electric buses and trucs$ solar power and a!!orestation will be the
order o! the day& 'he need to be austere in living$ !riendly to the environ#ent$ hygiene and
discipline in public places should be the #essage that #ust be conveyed by the school children
during !uture Republic Days&
3nstead o! a grand #ilitary display$ there should be #ore e#phasis on the need !or
peace$ both$ e4ternal and internal$ within each co##unity and !a#ily& 'he use o! !orce only as a
last resort will be the approach$ and the power o! co##unication$ discussion and persuasion
#ust be the chosen pre!erence&
3nstead o! tans and #issiles$ there should be display o! new technological
breathroughs in green technologies$ lie energy e!!icient cars and !actories& +arbon e#issions
will be a thing o! the past and the crowd in Ra5path should be lauding the innovative public
transportation syste#s that eli#inate the need !or individual citi6ens to buy their own private
vehicles&
7ast but not the least$ the Republic Day celebrations should conclude with a giant
display o! !lowers depicting love$ brotherhood and unity$ which will be the bond between the
people&
