Introduction

Water is the common medium for several life processes. There is no lifecycle without
water. Moreover, in plants situation, the uptake of nutrients through the roots is
intermediated by soil water. Consequently, water and soil are the elementary requirements
for the life and growth of plants (Briggs, 2018).

Water Quality can be defined as the chemical, physical and biological characteristics of
water, usually in respect to its suitability for a designated use. For instance, water can be
utilized for drinking, fishing, agriculture, and industrial purposes. Each of these authorized
uses has its specific defined chemical, physical, and biological standards in order to serve the
intended function. For instance, there are higher criteria for water that is used for swimming
or drinking than there are for water that is utilized in business or agriculture (Daniel & Scott,
2021).
To guarantee the effectiveness of the efficient use of water for a given purpose, water
quality standards are set in place. Water quality analysis is to measure the required
parameters of water, and evaluating them whether they are in accordance with the
standards using established methods. Water quality analysis is required mainly for
monitoring purpose. Some importance of such assessment includes: (1) To check whether
the water quality is in compliance with the standards, and hence, suitable or not for the
designated use, (2) To monitor the efficiency of a system, working for water quality
maintenance, (3) To check whether upgradation / change of an existing system is required
and to decide what changes should take place, (4) To monitor whether water quality is in
compliance with rules and regulations (Eumann & Schaebler, 2016).
Poor condition of water bodies is not only the indictor of environmental degradation, it
is also a threat to the ecosystem. In industries, improper quality of water may cause hazards
and severe economic loss. Thus, the quality of water is very important in both
environmental and economic aspects. This paper contains the result and analysis report of
water quality analysis conducted by Agricultural and Biosystem (ABE) students of Caraga
State University—main campus at a stream located at Ampayon, Butuan City.

Objectives:

1. Conduct water quality assessment of the selected water resources(stream, river, lake,
spring and etc.)
2. Assess the water quality result by comparing it to the DAO-2016-34.
3. Prepare recommendations on how to improve the water quality in the selected sites.
