From the Presidents desk.
Dear Lions
The pangs of hunger, the lack of shelter and clothing are best understood by poor people and this empathy leads them to share what little they have. Yet there are a large number of wealthy people who do not share what they have reaped from the society. There are of course people who are philanthropically minded , but in India it has been estimated that these form a small minority. In this scenario the Government has recently passed the Companies Act, which prevails upon profit making companies ( subject to conditions ) by which they have to necessarily spend an amount towards corporate social responsibility.
I believe this is an opportunity for Lions to implement substantial projects. If we can think of really good projects, support the same with data on expenditure and benefits we can approach corporate organizations and request them to partici- pate as part of their CSR. The lions in our club have contacts with many Corpo- rate and I think we can leverage this strength .
April did not have any club meetings as we participated in 3 district level meet- ings, including the district convention.
The members of the team for 2014 2015 has been chosen, with a balance of ex- perience and new blood and I am sure the club will grow to greater heights under their stewardship.

Ever since Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) estab- lished the One Shot, One Life: Lions Measles Initiative, I often reflect on how thankful I am that my children and grandchil- dren can receive immunizations for life-threatening diseases like measles. But not all kids are so lucky. Did you know that more than 300 people die every day from measles, mostly children, and even more are impacted by resulting health complications such as blindness? Measles is a highly conta- gious disease that can be prevented by a simple vaccination that costs less than a dollar. Thanks to you, more children are getting vaccinations and more lives are being saved.
Today marks the first day of this year's World Immunization Week. This annual event presents an opportunity to raise awareness of measles and the importance of vaccinations. Lions around the world are hosting events throughout this special week to show their commitment to the One Shot, One Life: Lions Measles Initia- tive.
As you read the LCIF blog this week, you will find inspiring stories from Lions about their work during World Immunization Week. Keep in mind that no matter where you are in the world, you can make a difference by supporting LCIF. Lions are pro- viding education in more than 200 countries, actively supporting vaccination cam- paigns in countries impacted by measles, and fundraising to make sure that more children have access to immunizations and a better life.
We are almost at the end of our 30-day challenge to raise US$1 million for measles and it is exciting to see our progress towards this goal. Have you made your contri- bution yet? Remember, your donation will be matched on a 1:1 basis throughout April by the family of Abhey and Aruna Oswal, for a total of up to US$500,000. I am confident that we can reach this goal together to help protect our children against measles. Thank you for your support! Sincerely, Wayne Madden - Chairperson, Lions Clubs International Foundation LCIF
